Lavender it is the most versatile of all essential oils (and has been called the “Universal Oil” or the “Swiss Army Knife of Oils”), no home or First Aid Kit should be without “therapeutic-grade” lavender.
Lavender is an adaptogen, meaning it can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances, whether one needs calming or stimulating! It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime, yet has balancing properties that can also boost stamina and energy. Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for skin and beauty.
It may also be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations. Some have experienced headache relief, and there are many testimonials on record of its ability to support the body in healing burns.
All lavender produced by Young Living is of the highest quality, and is therapeutic-grade. But there is more to the story. As we know, different soils and climates produce slightly different properties in the plants. And that is precisely the case with the two different Young Living lavender essential oils. They both are the same species and genus – the ONLY difference is the location (climate and soil) in which they are grown. The St. Marie’s Lavender smells quite a bit different, it still has that same lovely lavender fragrance – but you can smell quite a difference between the two.
When Gary Young brought lavender plants to St. Marie’s, the soil and climate produced plants from which they distilled oil that has a bit of a softer fragrance.

Diffused lemon resulted in 54% fewer errors, Jasmine 33% fewer errors, and lavender at 20% fewer errors. When aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50%.
University of Miami researchers found that inhalation of lavender essential oil increased beta waves in the brain, suggesting heightened relaxation. It also reduced depression and improved cobnitive performance (Diego et al., 1998).
A 2001 Osaka Kyoiku University study found that lavender essential oil reduced mental stress and increased alertness (Motomura et al., 2001).
Caution: True lavender is often extended with hybrid lavender (which is NOT therapetic in any way) or synthetic linalol and linalyl acetate (those are compounds extracted from lavender that prouce ONLY the scent).
And keep in mind,
France exports to the US 100 times more lavender than they distill.
Sorry, but the essential oils sold in any store, health food, Whole Foods, the drug store – NONE of them carry therapeutic-grade essential oils. Absolutely anyone who knows anything about essential oils will tell you, Young Living is the best and they set the world standard in purity and quality.
The moral: do not buy or use cheap lavender essential oil (or any other for that matter) on wounds, burns or for any type of therapy – you could injure yourself, and people have! Be certain you are getting REAL essential oils.
