Since toddler-hood, we’re taught that brushing our teeth is one of the most beneficial things we can do for our teeth. Brushing and good oral hygiene are terrific suggestions for mom’s to make – but the products avialable are anything but good for us and our kids.

Consider this…

If it were true, there would be no need for toothpastes to carry warning labels to “KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN!”

And they – instruct you to closely supervise children using the toothpaste.

And they warn you – to contact a Poison Control Center immediately if your child swallows more than a “pea-size” amount.

Are encouraging kids to put a poisonous substance in their mouth and telling them it’s good for them?

The industry makes the toothpaste taste good – while mom’s around the world are instructing their kids, “don’t swallow it, spit it out!” If that isn’t confusing to a kid, I don’t know what is!

What on earth are poisons doing in toothpaste?

Are there really any “safe” amounts of poison?

Are the manufacturers of dental care products deluding us into thinking their products are safe?

Just read the label on any major brand toothpaste or mouthwash. You’ll see they’re loaded with potentially dangerous additives and chemicals – most of which have been researched for their harmful effects:

• Alcohol
• Artificial color
• Artificial flavoring
• Aspartame
• Carrageenin
• Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
• Sodium fluoride
• Sodium saccharin
• FD&C Blue #1
• Yellow dye #5 or #10
• Pentasodium triphosphate
• Saccharin
• Sodium monofluorophosphate
• Tetrasodium pyrophosphate
• Titanium dioxide

And this is just a partial list!

Yes, many of the above ingredients are in the so-called natural toothpastes – don’t believe me, read the label. Just because it’s advertised as being natural and is sold in a health food store does NOT mean it is not poisonous.

What happens when toothpaste and mouthwash are in our mouth

The worst thing about it is that these chemicals can be absorbed directly into your blood stream within seconds through the lining of the mouth – even if you never swallow!

Some of these chemicals, when mixed with the chlorine and other chemicals in your tap water create another poison right there in your mouth! So you’re not only creating a new toxic brew in your mouth, but you’re breathing the vapors too!

According to the Physician’s Desk Reference, the mucosal lining inside your mouth has an absorption efficiency of over 90 percent!

These chemicals get into your blood, your brain, and your cells in no time at all – especially when you consider most people use dental care products 2 to 3 times a day!

Can toxic dental care chemicals impact your health?

According to a government study, these chemicals accumulate in the organs and tissues. This accumulation may result in mounting brain, nerve, and liver damage, (Matthew et al., 1995).

Other studies show that Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS), found in nearly ALL toothpastes, added to make products “lather”, is absorbed through skin contact and is retained for up to 5 days. It has long been suspected of health-damaging effects, especially in eye tissues where it accumulates and denatures proteins, impairing development permanently.

The FDA acknowledges that flouride, when swallowed, poses significant risks to children. And if you haven’t noticed, the FDA requires all fluoride toothpastes to carry a poison warning label.

The contents of your toothpaste or mouthwash may impact your health, and that of your children, in ways you never imagined!

As Gary Young, the founder of Young Living Essential Oils says, “If you can’t eat it, don’t wear it.”

Are Young Living dental care products really effective?

“I use the Thieves Dentarome Ultra Toothpaste and the Thieves Fresh Essence mouthwash twice a day – I haven’t needed a dental cleaning in 6 years (yes count ‘em, s-i-x years!), plus I have stopped flossing. I used to go every 6 months because I needed a cleaning, I could see tartar building up within 4-5 months – not any longer!” :-) ~ Evelyn Vincent
