Slightly over three years ago, I heard the news of Katrina hitting New Orleans while camping, perched some 5,000 feet high on a mountain in British Columbia, Canada. The drive down the mountain to the nearest town to use the computer at a tiny bookstore reveled the Katrina nightmare, I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears. Fortunately, hurricane Guatav wasn’t nearly as bad.
It made me think… I’m not as young and naively invincible as I was in my younger years. Hmmm, what should I do to prepare for an emergency or disaster? What is the ‘least’ I would ideally want with me if presented with an emergency disaster situation? One thing kept coming to mind… my large essential oil case. My Young Living oils could help me cleanse and heal my wounds, keep my body free of bad bacteria/germs/viruses, serve as a source of vitamin nutrition. But most of all… that case (Aroma Complete #3100) would provide the tools by which to help others in need. To be able to carry on my shoulder, 130 bottles, each 15ml bottle containing 250 drops, that’s 26,000 drops total… that many drops of essential oil could certainly be quite useful to have on hand.
What would I grab if an emergency occurred
If there was time, I would grab some food and some basic camping gear: flash light/batteries, lighters, water, sleeping bag/blanket, shortwave radio/batteries, mess kit, small tent, rope, First Aid kit (mine contains assorted bandages and Young Living essential oils), Thieves soap, a change or two of clothes and hiking shoes – I’d stuff it all into my big backpack.) If taking my car was practical, I’d then get my keys, purse, and grab my essential oil case, put my dog on his leash, and high-tail it. Most of these items I already have together and in one convenient place, I could probably gather them all together within 10 minutes. Though just to be sure, today I will go around and make sure I do have everything in order – better to be safe than sorry!
Ideally, we would want to be more prepared and have more than 5 minutes to get out. We would want to include some important things together in a small water-tight container. Depending on the size of ones family, various things would need to be discussed long before disaster struck. Planning.
I would also add, try to prepare light, meaning if you’re on foot, take only that which you and your family members can carry easily enough in backpacks. I would imagine that bicycles would be useful too depending on what the emergency situation is and how far you have to go – with our enormous population, roads will certainly be jammed and very slow moving. Plan ahead t see what’s reasonable for you and your family.

Dear Evelyn,
You have the best web site I have seen on YLTG oils.
I became a YLTG distributor in May 2009, and am hungry for information. Your site has the most complete list of how to use YLTG oils, and easy to understand. I thank you, very much for your knowledge and sharing.
I love your tick information on Polo Santo. I tryed YLTG peppermint oil on a seed tick. I could feel it back out of my arm, I couldn’t wait to pull it out. I will try Polo Santo next time. I love that there butt goes up in the air. We live in Oregon where we have many kinds of ticks.
I also hade a bad headache the other morning and washed my face first thing. I used my new purchase of Young Living Orange Blossom Facial Wash and to my surprise my headache subsided. I used it serveral times that day and the next morning my headache was totally gone.
Thank You,
Tressa
Thank you Tressa, that’s so nice to hear. That’s exactly the reason I started this blog website (in 2006) because when I began using the Young Living oils in 1999 I couldn’t find much information. I felt this was a good way to share what I know and it would help others and also help those who are looking for solutions. May you have many wonderful days using your oils for wellness. ~ Evelyn

Plastic Bottles
Great article, thanks for this info. it’s very helpful. I’m wondering what is the best way to store these oils for keepsake in a preparedness kit?
Hi Plastic Bottles,
The best way to store Young Living essential oils is in the original glass bottle, lid on tight, in a cold place out of direct sun. It is extremes of heat and cold that can negatively affect a therapeutic essential oil. High quality essential oils and plastic don’t work well together for storage, plastic comes from petro chemicals and essential oils breakdown petro chemicals. ~ Evelyn
