Fact: 70 percent of all food in the USA is, IS, Genetically Modified (GM).
Are you part of the 2/3 of the population think they have never eaten GMO food?
Take my survey: are you eating GM foods?
Since the introduction of GM crops in the United States, more than 120 million pounds of additional pesticides have been used. 85 percent of all GM seeds are engineered for herbicide tolerance, most of these being Monsanto’s “Roundup Ready” cotton, corn, soy, and canola seeds. This allows plants to withstand the significant amounts of pesticides being sprayed on them, in effect promoting pesticide use.
This particular variety of GM crop (Roundup Ready) became so popular because it allows farmers to spray Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide directly onto their fields without harming the crops. As you might imagine, the use of Roundup herbicide has increased dramatically since the GM Roundup Ready crops were introduced — a double win for Monsanto.
Andrew Kimbrell, Center for Food Safety, says, “what’s remarkable about this is that these are the scientists working inside the FDA and when the political appointee’s at the top said ‘no testing, no labeling’ they say where is your science, why didn’t you listen to our science? Now, that means that these foods have gone out without the testing, without asking are these foods toxic? Are these foods causing new allergens? They’re out there in our fields, they’re out there in our super markets, going out into markets around the world without testing being done.”
“Even though the FDA’s own scientists said that these tests should have been done, they would have to be done to prove these foods are safe. This is really amazing, here they say genetically modified plants can contain unexpected high concentrations of plant toxicans. In other words, the genetic engineering of these plants can take a safe food and make toxic. Not only that, but on food allergens they say that there can be ‘novel’ allergens that this genetic engineering of plants can create NEW allergens never seen before in our food.”
“Once again, that’s from the Toxicology section of the FDA, their OWN scientists. This food is not safe, it needs to be looked at. But Monsanto didn’t want that examination to happen. So it [Monsanto] knew its political influence made sure the FDA could not do its job. And so to this day, to this day, both the United States and people of the world do not know these foods are safe because Monsanto was able to convince these political appointee’s not to do their job.”
Even when researchers tested formulations of Roundup that were highly diluted (up to 100,000 times or more) on human cells, the cells died within 24 hours. They also found damage to cell membranes and DNA, along with an inhibition of cell respiration.
At Least 65 Serious Health Risks Are Linked To GM Foods
GM crops routinely create unintended proteins, alter existing protein levels, or even change the components and shape of the protein that is created by the inserted gene.
This results in brand new proteins that have never before existed in food, some of which may be causing severe allergic reactions.
Creating a GM crop can also produce massive changes in the natural functioning of the plant‘s DNA. Native genes can be mutated, deleted, permanently turned on or off, or change their levels of protein expression. No one knows how this will impact human health, but so far Jeffrey Smith. a leading spokesperson on the dangers of GM foods, has documented at least 65 serious health risks related to GM foods.
Your GM Food Probably Contains Roundup Pesticide Residues
For starters, 85 percent of all GM seeds are engineered for herbicide tolerance, most of these being Monsanto’s “Roundup Ready” cotton, corn, soy, and canola seeds. This allows plants to withstand the significant amounts of pesticides being sprayed on them, in effect promoting pesticide use.
In fact, since the introduction of GM crops in the United States, more than 120 million pounds of additional pesticides were used.
But while it’s widely known that GM Roundup Ready crops contain Roundup residues (how could they not with how much is poured on them?), a recent study showed, for the first time, just how toxic these residues may be to your health.
Even when researchers tested formulations of Roundup that were highly diluted (up to 100,000 times or more) on human cells, the cells died within 24 hours. They also found damage to cell membranes and DNA, along with an inhibition of cell respiration.
Among them:
• Offspring of rats fed GM soy showed a five-fold increase in mortality, lower birth weights, and the inability to reproduce
• Male mice fed GM soy had damaged young sperm cells
• The embryo offspring of GM soy-fed mice had altered DNA functioning
• Several US farmers reported sterility or fertility problems among pigs and cows fed GM corn varieties
• Investigators in India have documented fertility problems, abortions, premature births, and other serious health issues, including deaths, among buffaloes fed GM cottonseed products
Further, just last year a long-term feeding study commissioned by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety confirmed GM corn seriously affects reproductive health in mice.
The results were so worrisome that GM opponents called for an immediate ban of all GM foods and GM crops in order to protect the health of humankind and the fertility of women around the world.
Fact: GM Crops Do Not Increase Yield
Anyone who believes Monsanto’s proclamations of saving the world from environmental catastrophe and hunger by way of increased yields is clearly not paying attention to some very blatant signs that this is not true.
GM crop seeds currently on the market do not increase yields, and are not designed to. In fact, GM crops typically render lower yields.
For example, GM soya has decreased yields by up to 20 percent compared with non-GM soya. And up to 100 percent failures of Bt cotton have been recorded in India. Coincidentally, a staggering number of suicides among India’s farmers have occurred.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau of India, more than 182,900 Indian farmers took their own lives between 1997 and 2007, potentially due to GM crop failures. An estimated 46 Indian farmers commit suicide every day.
Additionally, recent studies by scientists from the USDA and the University of Georgia found that growing GM cotton in the United States can result in a drop in income by up to 40 percent.
I recommend taking a look at “The True Food Network” Guide
Learn what’s going on ‘behind the label’ of the food on our supermarket shelves in the United States, know that just because it’s not listed on labels, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Go behind the label and discover what foods are really on our store shelves and what “you” can do – if we stop buying foods that are genetically modified we’ll create financial hardship for Monsanto, once that occurs… bye-bye Monsato GM seeds and crops!
Take a couple minutes and do something, starting now – go to The Ture Food Network Action Center ( http://www.geaction.org/truefood/getactive/ ) and learn ways you can empower yourself, for the safety of yourself, your family, and protect the bio-diversity of all non-genetically engineered plants… our lives and future literally depend on it!
Our lack of action allows them to continue on their path. Which to simplify, is nothing more than having a “patent” on every living plant on earth and claim the rights to them – and – to keep our farmers 100% dependent on their herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides.
Monsanto Makes Me ANGRY!
It seems to me like this is one of those really BIG companies that we need to pull the rug out from under and allow them to collapse, without taxpayers coming to the rescue to bail them out! Cause their failure by not buying their products and let them fold. I know it sounds harsh, but when you take into consideration that Monsanto’s GM seeds/crops contain a “tracker gene” – which means when their plants cross pollenate with a non-genetically crop in a nearby field, and when the cross pollenate with species of their own kind (which they most certainly do) and their wild ancestors (which they also do), and the fact that it is quite likely that the Honey Bee population of the world is in jeopardy because of the Round-Up Ready seeds/plants… it makes my blood boil to put t bluntly.
When we risk loosing our bio-diversity, safe foods, and pollenating insects (which we need to create the foods we eat to live) to nothing more than a corrupt, greedy, and controlling group of so-and-so’s… Grrrrrrrrrrrr… it makes me more determined to see their failure within my lifetime, how dare they! We need Monsanto and GM crops like we need a hole in the head!
Please help me and others to eliminate Monsanto, once and for all, they’ve done enough damage – let’s not allow them to take it all away. I don’t want to be eating their ‘Frankenfoods’ – knowingly or unknowingly.
Please visit The True Food Network and learn how you can make easy changes in your life and put and end to this Monsanto nonsense.
You will want to strike these foods and foods with these ingredients off your shopping list:
1. Soy
2. Corn
3. Cottonseed
4. Canola
5. Sugar Beet / Sugar Beet Juice
And, keep an eye on these foods (because Monsanto is making these GM too)… Potatoes and Wheat.
Demand better!

Keith
There are many points here that I would question. One that I do know, is that Monsant dropped it’s potato program in North American almost 10 years ago.
Hi Keith,
It appears to me that Monsanto has pulled their “NewLeaf” GM potato off the market in ’some’ countries, not all. It looks like they were pulled off the market in the US and Canada in 2001-2002 because consumers were not keen on them and the field trials (6 years worth) were poor. I stand partly corrected, thanks. ~ Evelyn
