Citrus essential oils make terrific air fresheners around the home, kitchens, in offices, schools and public places and very few people object to the scent; whereas synthetic air fresheners mask may mask undesirable odors and often cause people to not feel well and complain about the odor.
Citrus oils are described by aromatherapists as being uplifting, gently stimulating, and conducive to alertness and concentration, while the essential oils of Lavender, Clary Sage, and Roman Chamomile are described as relaxing and soothing. Read 8 Essential Oils to Create Vision, Creativity and Inner Guidance. With this knowledge, you might choose to diffuse Citrus Fresh in your home or work space for 15 minutes 3 times a day to support your efforts on an important project.
Ways to Use Citrus Fresh
As a food/beverage flavoring: dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of milk, water or tea. Or, put a drop or two in a smoothie. Or, add a drop to a muffin, cake, or cookie mix for a delightful citrus flavor. Remember, all Young Living essential oils are very potent (they are not diluted, and so one drop carries a powerful flavor).
As a supplement: d-limonene is an extremely powerful antioxidant and I believe a great disease and cancer preventative. Many studies are now showing this to be true, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=d-limonene+cancer To use daily as a supplement you would either put a drop or two in a glass of water -or- you can put a couple drops in a “00″ capsule with a tiny bit of olive oil.
Topical: the citrus oils are also known for lightening age spots – but do be mindful that citrus oils can make the skin photosensitive so you would use a tiny drop on a dark patch late in the day (after the sun goes down, for instance) so that my morning the photosensitivity would have diminished by morning. In other words, do not apply a citrus oil topically and then go out boating or sun bathing (tanning booths included, it’s all UV light). Apply this small drop with a bit of V-6 Massage Oil to dilute.
Diffuse: Citrus Fresh can be diffused to impart a lively, fresh, clean and uplifting scent in the home or workplace. The aromatherapy benefits can be enjoyed by all. Diffuse for 15-30 minutes 3-1-3 times a day. More on Diffusers and Diffusing.

“This oil [dorado azul] contains high levels of beta-caryophyllene, which is a compound found in various plant materials and, of course, in a higher concentration in oils. Beta-caryophyllene is an amazing sesquiterpene.] When this is found in an oil like dorado azul, which contains eucalyptol as well, this means that this is an oil that supports the respiratory tract. Dorado azul is very powerful and the effectiveness of it is almost magical. The results that our patients at the clinic [in Ecuador at the Young Living Farm] have seen wonderful results, and now individuals out in the field are experiencing them, too.
Another thing that we see with dorado azul is that it contains a lot of hormone-balancing compounds, one of which is alpha-fenchol. A lot of the women here in America, who I hear from mostly, are finding that dorado azul is giving them a great support in normal hormone function, particularly when combining it with SclarEssence.*” ~ Gary Young
About Dorado Azul (Hyptis suaveolens)
The stems, leaves and flowers are steam distilled. Found in Ecuador. Dorado Azul has a rich herbaceous scent that helps strengthen the lungs, promoting calm, easy breathing.*
Until about 2006 dorado azul was recognized in Ecuador as a weed. It did not even have a botanical name until Gary Young distilled it and analyzed it and gave it its identity. It has a red liquid when distilled, and the natives use it to reverse cancer.*
A great companion to Dorado Azul is Eucalyptus Blue, used together this pairing supports in assisting respiratory conditions. Eucalyptus Blue is preferred over the other many types of eucalyptus species because of its well-balanced chemistry and its non-allergen effect for all types of respiratory conditions.*
Medicinal Properties: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, respiratory stimulant.
Uses: Colds, coughs, flu, bronchitis, asthma, allergic reactions that cause constriction and compromised breathing, any compromise to the respiratory tract, hormone balancer, circulatory stimulant, arthritic and rheumatoid-type pain, reducing candida and other intestinal tract problems, digestion, hygienic action for the mouth, enhances mood.
- For lung congestion, add R.C., Raven, Dorado Azul and Eucalyptus Blue essential oils to a bowl of hot, steaming water. Place a towel over your head and inhale the steam from the mixture. Combine with Raven (alternating morning and night) and Thieves to enhance effects.
- For colds, try alternate diffusing of Dorado Azul with Thieves and Exodus II essential oils. To enhance effects further, add: Melissa, Palo Santo, Clove or Cistus essential oils.
- For irritability or jealousy, try a mixture of: Dorado Azul, Ylang Ylang, Tangerine, Idaho Balsam Fir, Lavender, Melissa, and Ocotea essential oils.
- For shock, try a combination of: Helichrysum, Basil, Dorado Azul, Copaiba, Roman Chamomile, Ylang Ylang and Rosemary essential oils.
- For Body Defense (antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and disease) try: a mixture of Cinnamon Bark, Cistus, Clove, Dorado Azul, Lemon, Oregano, Palo Santo, Spearmint, Spikenard, Tangerine, Thyme, and Eucalyptus Blue essential oils.
- For muscle, joint & bone issues; try BLM (supplement) and topical applications of companion oils, Aroma Siez, PanAway, Deep Relief Roll-On, Idaho Balsam Fir, Copaiba, Dorado Azul essential oils.
- For analgesic (analgesic is defined as a compound that binds with a number of closely related, specific receptors in the central nervous system to block perception of pain or affect the emotional response to pain), try a combination of: Helichrysum, Dorado Azul, Palo Santo, Elemi, Wintergreen, Lavender and Copaiba essential oils.
Ways to Use Dorado Azul Essential Oil
Topical: dilute 50/50 (equal portions) of Dorado Azul essential oil with V-6 Massage Oil (a high quality carrier oil) especially when being used on sensitive areas such as the face, neck, genital area, underarms, etc. Apply 2-4 drops on location or abdomen, chakra or vita flex points.
Diffuse: Up to 30 minutes 3 times a day.
I was just contacted again by someone who made a purchase of some essential oils and a TheraPro Diffuser from a seller on Amazon. When I asked her for her Young Living member number I was told she was not a member and that she had made her purchase at Amazon. She immediately filed a complaint about me to Young Living because she ‘assumed’ that since I said to her, “it is usually the distributor who one becomes a member with that addresses questions because they are the customer of that distributor” – because at that time I didn’t know she had purchased the TheraPro differ and Thieves oil from a non-distributor. She didn’t like that I said that. So she turned around and promptly filed a complaint about me.
I’m going to rant for a minute here because I am sick and tired of being treated poorly by people that buy Young Living products from non-distributors and expect the distributors to jump through hoops for them. I’ve had people buy from sellers on both eBay and Amazon and they expect me to fix their problems, give them refunds, and spend hours teaching them about using the oils.
There are some things people don’t realize and I am going to point these things out so that it may help people who are considering buying Young Living products from Amazon and eBay sellers.
1. Let’s say you are thinking of purchasing a Young Living TheraPro diffuser and bottle of Thieves essential oil from an eBay or Amazon seller…
First, you need to know that if you contact a Young Living distributor they will tell you –rather than paying $200 plus tax/shipping from an eBay or Amazon seller– that there is a way you can get the TheraPro Diffuser for $110 plus tax/shipping. That way is through becoming a wholesale member and you get a mail-in $40 off a diffuser coupon.
An eBay or Amazon seller is NOT going to inform you of this savings. Why in the world would they!? If they did inform you of that fact they would lose money and a potential customer. They are betting that you already believe that if you go to eBay or Amazon to shop for YL products and that you think you will be saving a mint.
I’m going to be the skunk at the picnic here and tell you flat out… you will never buy Young Living oils or products at eBay or Amazon for prices lower than YL wholesale prices. You won’t even be buying them at wholesale prices. How am I so certain about this???
Well, because I know how YL works. The eBay or Amazon seller cannot buy the YL products for cheaper than I, a wholesale customer buys them at. It’s a fact, it is NOT possible because there are no prices less than wholesale.
The eBay and Amazon sellers will also order enough every month from Young Living so that they qualify for the monthly freebie. Which they will then turn around and sell on eBay or Amazon for somewhat cheaper than wholesale so that shoppers on those sites ‘think’ they can get all of the YL products at a much cheaper cost than they could through a distributor. There’s a name for this business tactic and it’s called a lost-leader, it’s where the store has a very limited number, they advertise it as a great deal (which it is) to get you into the store and buy other items at the regular price. They do it just often enough to get their customers convinced that they have the best prices on everything always, and that’s not always true.
The eBay and Amazon sellers can also be on the Young Living Essential Rewards program, just like I am and just like many of my customers are. So what this means is that after you are on the Essential Rewards program for one year you are getting 20% in rewards points in return for being a valued monthly customer. After one year, you will earn $20 in rewards points for every $100 you spend.
That means your eBay and Amazon seller is selling you products that they got for free from YL when they redeemed their rewards points.
So, I think the real question you should be asking yourself before making a purchase there is, “why don’t I just find a YL distributor, become a YL member, join Essential Rewards and be getting $10 a month during month 1-6 for every $100 I buy at wholesale, then get $15 a month during month 7-12 for every $100 I buy at wholesale, and from month 13 and onward get $20 for every $100 you spend in rewards points to redeem for free product just like the eBay and Amazon sellers!?”
Why are you buying from them when you could be buying the same products they are selling to you, at a profit, for wholesale yourself?
2. Now, let’s say you have questions about how to use the Young Living essential oils that you bought on eBay or Amazon…
If you think you are going to be able to go to that seller and have them teach you all you need to know… you are delusional. They are only there to make a sale(s) to you. They are not there to answer the questions that you have regarding the use of the oils or YL products you purchased from them.
If you want to ask questions and learn how to use your oils, become a member with an actual Young Living distributor and you will get them.
3. Let’s say you purchased Young Living products from an Amazon or eBay seller and you want a refund or an exchange…
You cannot go to a Young Living distributor and expect or demand that they give you a refund or replacement. They did not make the sale to you and they are not responsible for business practices that take place on people selling YL products on Amazon and eBay.
Likewise, do not contact Young Living corporate and expect a refund or exchange from them either, they are not the party who sold the product to you and they are not responsible.
Yes, there are people out there who expect that all distributors and YL corporate are responsible for any YL product they purchased no matter who they bought it from. I had that experience within the past month with an individual, they insisted that I sold them the product on my website. That’s impossible, I do not sell, process, ship or collect money from anyone ever. All of my customers become YL members and YL processes and ships their order to them, it’s called drop-ship. The only money I ever see from the sale of YL products is through my monthly YL commission check. I work on commission. I do not carry an inventory or ship anything, ever. It all comes straight out of the YL warehouse and straight to my customers door.
4. Let’s say you believe that prices of Young Living products are cheaper on eBay or Amazon…
I have yet to see any YL product cheaper on eBay or Amazon over the 8 years I have been a distributor.
If you buy Young Living products from a seller on eBay or Amazon do expect that you are NOT getting a cheaper price. See what I said above in #1 for details on how it works.
Like the woman who contacted me today, she paid over $200 for a YL TheraPro Diffuser. Clearly she made the purchase without speaking to a YL distributor prior to making the purchase and she had no idea that the exact same diffuser could have been bought for $110 if she became a member under a distributor. Membership has many advantages.
5. Before you buy Young Living products from an eBay or Amazon seller…
Ask yourself is that seller, a wholesale customer with Young Living already and just maybe they are buying products at wholesale (like I am and like you can too) and turning around and selling them to people (at a profit) who believe that eBay and Amazon have the best prices on everything.
Chances are great that you WILL be paying retail prices or higher, with some are considerably higher.
Don’t go thinking that because something is sold on Amazon or eBay that you are getting the best price. I stopped shopping at those places years ago because the kinds of things I do purchase can ALWAYS be found cheaper through someone else someplace else.
Anyone in business needs to make a profit in order to stay in business. Amazon and eBay sellers are no different.
6. Before you file a complaint with Young Living about one of their distributors…
Ask yourself if you are doing that because you are frustrated because ‘you’ made a poor choice when you bought from that eBay or Amazon seller. That you wanted full customer service and discovered after the fact that you are not getting full service.
Your mistakes and choices are NOT the responsibility of a distributor and your education on how to use the oils is not a YL distributors responsibility if you are not one of their customers.
Do you have any idea how many questions I am asked daily by people who buy YL oils from people who don’t give a hoot about teaching you? On a slow day about 6, on a busy day a dozen or more. And that’s just people who are not my own customers.
I’m sorry, but if you are buying YL products from an Amazon or eBay seller and expect to get an education from a distributor who will never see a penny from you… ask yourself how many hours a day would you be willing to spend taking care of customers from someone elses business?
If I spent my time answering all of the questions from Amazon, eBay and other non-distributors customers I would not have time to take care of my hundreds of customers. And when a distributor tells you that they cannot take on eBay and Amazon buyers educations it’s because if they do so it will be at the expense of their own customers, please know that they are not being mean to you but that they have to draw the line somewhere.
How would you feel if you were a customer of mine and I didn’t have time to spend with you and answering your questions because I was busy taking care of an eBay or Amazon sellers customers? You would think I was a nut-case! You would think I didn’t have my priorities set straight. You would think that you were crazy for becoming a customer of mine, right?
7. In conclusion…
Just know that when you buy Young Living oils and/or products from an eBay or Amazon seller that you will NEVER get anything more out of the seller than that which you purchased. They won’t be able to answer your oil or product questions like a distributor can. If you are perfectly fine with that and if you are perfectly fine with spending more on YL products over there and shop. It’s fine with me but don’t turn around and blame me for not educating you or giving you a refund or exchange. Know that you will never get the same care and education that you would if you had joined YL through one of their very nice and helpful distributors.OK, I’m done with my rant on the things you need to consider BEFORE buying Young Living oils, diffusers and other products from an eBay or Amazon seller. If you would like to buy YL products from me follow this link to my website and become a member.
For clarification should any eBay or Amazon sellers are reading this…
Most of you do give very good product service, accept returns and exchanges. This rant is NOT about product service, it is about people who buy YL oils from you and they are coming to small home-based distributors like me to learn how to use the oils that you are selling to them because you aren’t providing that service to your own customers. If you want me to teach them you should hire me as an independent contractor for educational purposes. I am not the bad guy that your customers think I am because I don’t provide all of the services I provide to my own customers. I am not the bad guy because I don’t have enough time in the day to offer your customers free educations when they demand it.
First, let’s cover some of the reasons why the benefits of diffusing Young Living Therapeutic-grade Essential Oils is worth the effort and why they actually provide results. While the benefits are many and varied, one thing for certain, it’s a win-win – I can attest to that!
Benefits of Therapeutic-grade Oils During Diffusing
- Essential oils kill pathogenic micro-organisms of all kinds.
- World renowned medical researcher, Dr. Jean Valnet M.D., states that essential oils provide remarkable protection against viral infections ranging from shingles to influenza.
- Private research, funded by Young Living Essential Oils. Inc. at Weber State University, successfully demonstrated specific essential oils diffused in a closed chamber killed every virus tested within minutes. Of 74 Young Living single essential oils tested, lemongrass, Roman chamomile, cinnamon, rose, valerian and yarrow scored the highest kill rates.
- Specific Young Living blends of essential oils, like the Thieves blend demonstrated a 99.6% kill rate against airborne bacteria and scored high for its antiviral qualities and anti-fungal qualities.
- Diffusing essential oils in the home or work place is one of the best ways to purify our environment. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of the oils, along with the negative ions and oxygenating molecules that are released when essential oils are diffused.
- Cinnamon bark oil, oregano oil, and Thieves (a blend by Young Living Essential Oils) were all tested by Weber State University, and were shown to kill 100% of the airborne bacteria present when diffused into the atmosphere. (KID-Radio with Lance Richardson and Gary Young, ND, March 5, 1996).
- By diffusing essential oils, or applying them topically to targeted areas of the body, therapeutic constituents reestablish balance where stress or mental discomfort has disrupted healthy emotional function.
- Superior quality essential oils, of which only about 2 percent in the world are of this quality, never contain chemicals, cheap carrier oils, and do contain the delicate compounds that provide us of all the benefits. Please do not diffuse cheap essential oils, you will be breathing the horrible chemicals they contain and that defeats the purpose of doing something good for yourself and family.
Depending upon your choice of essential oil diffused you and your family could also benefit by the fact that some oils have a balancing effect on the brain and emotions. This again is another reason for choosing a superior essential oil.
Oils known for fostering balance and calm when diffused: Peace & Calming, Gentle Baby, Joy, Harmony, a 50/50 mix of both Lavender and Orange for anxiety, and Citrus Fresh.
Tip: Never use a diffuser that diffuses by means of heat! The heat generated from these types of diffusers becomes too hot for a superior essential oil by breaking down the molecules which provide the benefits. Candle, heating element and light bulb ring diffusers all will ruin the therapeutic benefits of the essential oil.
Forest Fresh Scent to Make Yourself
This is a nice blend to make for diffusing during winter months. Mix together in the well of a cold-air diffuser, such as the TheraPro Premium Diffuser.
You will need these YL single essential oils:
- Spruce – 25 drops
- Lavender – 12 drops
- Eucalyptus – 12 drops
- Cedarwood – 10 drops
- Thyme – 8 drops
Add these to diffuser and diffuse for a forest fresh scent!
If you’re using the Travel Fan Diffuser, Home Diffuser, or Ultrasonic Diffuser simply use less of the specified oils as these types of diffusers do not require as much essential oil. Yes, that does mean less essential oil gets put into the air with those types of diffusers and yes there could be a diminished result because of this; as such, these types of diffusers are not recommended for treating situations where mold and higher levels of bacteria are present.
The best all-around, multipurpose diffuser is the TheraPro Premium Diffuser. It has a built-in timer and speed control.
Watch this short video to learn the features and see how to use the TheraPro Diffuser.
If you are interested in diffusing with superior essential oils continue reading to learn how to save 24 percent off retail prices, and get a $40 off diffuser coupon.
To get a mail-in $40 off a diffuser coupon for the TheraPro Diffuser become a wholesale customer under the ‘Distributor’ membership, recommend getting started with the Start Living with Everyday Oils kit.
The coupon is in the Start Living with Everyday Oils kit and includes these 5ml bottles of essential oils: Lavender (2), Peppermint (2), lemon (1), Thieves (1), Frankincense (1), Valor (1), PanAway (1), Peace & Calming (1), Purification (1).
If you are making a purchase during February 2013 you may want to read on my team blog how to get $147 worth of YL essential oils for free.
There seems to be a small group of people who are disturbed by the fact that Young Living (YL) has coined the term “therapeutic-grade”. It seems to me that the reason for them being disturbed by the term is because they don’t have a good understanding as to why YL did this. Let me clarify what has happened…
“Therapeutic-grade” is in fact a term that Young Living Essential Oils came up with to distinguish a difference between, improperly handled plants and oils, and the best handling of plants and oils.
No government or agency was involved with this because there has never been any standards whatsoever for essential oils and there still isn’t. Because there isn’t one, and YL is the largest essential oil producer in the world, they took it upon themselves to create a standard so the consumer could learn and recognize that there is a vast difference.
Before going any further, I want to mention that the term that YL did coin is “Young Living Therapeutic-grade”. Their company name at the beginning of the term gives an indication that not only did they coin the term but that no other company can use the term in the same way they have. They had to do this because YL is not a regulating agency over-seeing other essential oil companies.
That said, YL found that they had to set a standard itself because the terms such as “organic”, “100% Pure”, “Pure”, “100% Pure Essential Oil” and so forth, have been so terribly abused. So much have those terms that once did have significant meaning no longer indicate anything worth bragging about. Right now, you and I could go into a lab and create an essential oil out of nothing but chemicals and label it “100% Pure” – yes, it’s legal to do that because there is no regulation to distinguish the junk from the good stuff.
Here is what the YL (company) uses as its own standard for their essential oils…
Anyone Can Claim to Be Therapeutic Grade.
Only Young Living Can Claim Young Living Therapeutic Grade™.
The process Young Living uses when planting, cultivating, harvesting, and distilling a batch of oil is crucial to retaining its vital compounds. Without the exact blend of naturally occurring plant chemicals, an essential oil can lose its beneficial properties and fail to produce the desired effect.
Young Living Therapeutic Grade (YLTG) means that every essential oil Young Living distills or sources has the optimal naturally occurring blend of constituents to maximize the desired effect. Young Living is able to make this assertion because of our strict cultivation process—illustrated by the Four Ps—that guarantees the optimal potency of every Young Living essential oil.
An oil’s potency can be affected not only by selecting the proper plant to cultivate, but also by where the plant is grown, the quality of soil in which the seed is planted, and even the time of day it’s harvested.
Young Living has extensive experience selecting the correct species of plant for desired oil potency, planting under optimal conditions, using ideal soil and natural methods to encourage growth, and knowing the precise time to harvest each crop. Only those plants that produce the most active and widest array of therapeutic compounds are selected.
Once the optimal soil, plant, cultivation, and harvesting conditions have been adhered to, the plants must be distilled properly in order to meet Young Living Therapeutic Grade standards. Young Living uses a gentle, proprietary technique for steam-extracting the most potent essential oils, which remains unmatched throughout the essential oils industry.
To meet Young Living Therapeutic Grade distillation standards proper temperature must be maintained throughout the distillation process, and pressure, length of time, equipment, and batch size are strictly monitored.
Young Living Therapeutic Grade standards prohibit the acceptance of any diluted, cut or adulterated oils. Every product Young Living produces—essential oils, oil blends, nutritional supplements, or personal care—meets strict purity standards.
Every batch of essential oils is subjected to rigorous, state-of-the-art analysis at the Young Living chemistry lab. Using some of the most advanced equipment in the world, our scientists subject every batch of essential oils to Gas Chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer testing, and heavy metals analysis. Oils that exhibit even the slightest hint of possible adulteration or tampering are rejected.
The culmination of the preceding three stages, Potency means that the naturally occurring compounds contained in each essential oil product are of the highest and most consistent bioactive levels. Without strict adherence to the Young Living Therapeutic Grade standard in the Plant, Preparation, and Purity phases, the final product would not have the necessary potency to create the desired effect.
The term Young Living Therapeutic-grade is an explanation of the standards YL is using to distinguish the gamut of qualities on the market. They had to name (label) their standard as something so that people could gain an understanding of the differences.
What is verifiable is the ‘standard’ YL operates by, and they call that standard therapeutic-grade.
Have you noticed lately that there are more and more people using the term “beyond organic”? That’s a term made up too.
What the term “beyond organic” means is it is informing people about is the fact that since the FDA and USDA took over the “organic” standards and regulations back in the early 1990′s they literally lowered the criteria that earned a farm “Organic Certification” prior to their takeover. The organic label today doesn’t even come close to the organic label of pre-1990′s.
There is no difference between the reason why we today have these two terms, “Therapeutic-grade” and “Beyond Organic” – it was a group of people who were dissatisfied with our current lax government standards, guidelines, and agencies, compared to the old very strict standards which served us so well years ago.
The fact is, since there is no standard or regulatory body overseeing the aromatherapy or essential oil industry somebody was bound to take matters into their own hands and set a standard, that somebody was Young Living.
The reason why YL was in a position to create a standard is because since 1992 they have been keeping articulate labs records from each harvest of plant material used in the distillation of their essential oils. They have the largest documented collection of material in the world. It is only when one has documentation over many years that they can determine a value of what equals junk and what equals superior.
While some might also think this term is merely for marketing purposes but that is coming from mouths that don’t know what has been going on in the industry and how bad it has become because there is no regulating body to oversee what a company is actually producing for consumers. I can assure you that it is not a marketing tactic, it is a standard that was created to help consumers learn and understand the value of what is being marketed around the world.
The standard for organic certification is so bad now that it’s a joke.
Michael Potter, Chairman and President of Eden Foods, in his testimony before the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). Many are too young to remember that back in the early 1990s there was quite a bit of concern and protest going on in the health food stores and among the organic food co-op’s. The fear back was that the USDA and the now NOSB would ruin the organics industry in some manner.
Prior to the USDA taking over organic regulation it was actually quite difficult for growers and farmers to meet the very strict organic regulations. While we weren’t certain back then how the new takeover would change the entire industry we did end up seeing the change happen within a relatively few years and it wasn’t good.
Large corporations who have purchased most of the our nation’s organic food industry and farms include: Coca-Cola, Cargill, General Mills, Kraft and M&M Mars, Kellogg’s, and Heinz, to name a few.
With the change in who regulates organics also meant the demise of thousands of small family owned organic farms. Stoneyfield Farms is one perfect example of how a wonderful food product can change virtually overnight and become nothing more than just another average commercial yogurt producer whose product is no longer truly organic, not to mention the fact that the product tastes disgusting as a result.
About 43 years ago, Michael Potter founded Eden Organics, back in the days when the word and label “organic” actually meant that something was super pure and truly natural. During those days, carrageenan, which is a seaweed-derived thickener that has a controversial health record, was not considered organic and was not allowed in a certified organic product. Also on the list of not organic ingredients was synthetic inositol, an ingredient manufactured using chemical processes. Today, those ingredients are permissible in labeled certified organic products. Worse yet is that GMO foods and ingredients are also allowed in labeled certified organic products.
For those of us who remember what food tasted like before the takeover all I can say is what is being sold and labeled today as organic is nothing more than a joke, the entire regulation and certification is shameful.
It is beyond me how any regulatory body can approve known non-organic ingredients to be included in products with a certified organic label. I suppose the only real way we can get the organic industry back to the wholesomeness it was prized for is to stop buying certified organic foods and products altogether, if there is no profits to be made they will stop making phony organic certificates and claims.
To make matters worse, the onslaught of GMO seed is potentially contaminating not only the environment but organic seed and crops as well through cross-pollination. In my mind, the fact that GM soy can and is allowed to be fed to animals in certified organic feedlots is a huge step back in our evolution of maintaining a clean source of food for those who demand better.
Michael Potter says…
“The board is stacked. Either they don’t have a clue, or their interest in making money is more important than their interest in maintaining the integrity of organics.”
Michael Potter refuses to place the certified-organic label on Eden’s product, claiming it a fraud!
In this 5 minute video on May 22, 2012 Michael Potter testified at the National Organics Standards Board Meeting on his dismay on the corruption and lax standards of the certified organic industry today…
Young Living also does not want the certified organic label on their essential oils, the label is a farce people!
I laugh when I see on an egg carton that the chickens were fed a “vegetarian diet” – a chickens ‘normal’ diet is supposed to be a mix of grasses and other leafy green plants and their seeds, and insects. I don’t want eggs that came from a chicken that was fed fake organic grains and kept in a coop with a door that only had to provide them access to the outdoors “IF” the chicken wants to outside (the chickens do not actually ‘have’ to go outdoors, which most don’t if they’ve been raised in a corporate coop. Those birds need sunlight and to be eating their natural diet in order to provide the nutrition we require to be healthy.
Organically certified beef can be raised in feedlots and fed organically certified corn and soy beans. They are allowed under current organic standards and regulations to never even eat a blade of native grass to become certified!
As you may already know, the only reason cows are slaughtered when they are 13 months old is because of the diet they are fed, they cannot survive much longer on a diet of corn and soy beans, regardless if these grains being organic or not. A healthy cow requires very specific types of grasses and some specific grass ‘seeds’ to be healthy, and healthy enough for us to eat. A calf or cow will never eat a grain instinctively because it makes them ill. It is only when they are given no other food choice that most will breakdown and eat grains because they are starving to death. Many calves (raised in conventional and organic methods) die because they simply cannot find another suitable food source (because they’re standing in a corral of mud up to their knees and the only food provided is corn and soy beans, they either eat it or die. A cow that is allowed to eat its natural diet requires 3 years to raise for slaughtering and they eat grasses and some kinds of weeds, naturally. It’s no wonder nutritionists say to avoid or minimize beef (both organic and conventionally raised) in the human diet, it’s because it’s a dreadfully unhealthy product for us to eat. Cattle that is raised on grass has a completely different nutritional profile and is actually very healthy for us to eat. But you wouldn’t know the difference based on the marketing and misleading information available to us these days.
The mega company’s have spent billions of dollars a year, probably adding up into the trillions over the past 50 years ‘convincing’ consumers to ‘accept’ mass produced junk. I believe this is precisely why the health of our children and adults has done nothing but do downhill since WWII.
It is for these reasons and many more, that folks in-the-know came up with the term “beyond organic” – it was a means to which they could help educate the public that there is a vast difference, and that the organic label today is meaningless compared to what the term “organic” once meant.
I personally LOVE that there are some groups out there, YL included, who are gutsy enough and creative enough to come up with the term “beyond organic” and “Young Living Therapeutic-grade”.
I think it’s brilliant because as a consumer of organically labelled foods for most of my life prior the organic regulation take-over in the early 1990s. For decades, I prayed that someone would do something to indicate to the average consumer that organic ain’t what it used to be. The FDA and USDA couldn’t wait to take over what was once a perfectly fine industry, so they could change the regulations to make it easier for the big companies to buy out the small guys and create corporate organic farms. I could go on and on about what a shambles the US regulatory body’s has created over the past 25+ years and I have in another blog I have, see these posts if you’re realizing that you’re not up to speed on what has been done and is being done…
Sustainable Beyond Organic Meats: we are what the animal eats and there are plenty more at that blog.
Right now, YL has five beyond organic farms around the world: 2 in the US, 1 in Ecuador, 1 in France, 1 in Yemen. Totaling several thousand acres. You might be wondering why in the world would a company like YL be doing with so much land anyway… it’s because the only way you can know for sure something has been done right is to do it yourself.
Many years ago, Gary Young, founder and president and founder of YL, was offered an ungodly amount of money for the company. He turned the offer down because he didn’t want all of the hard work and standards that made YL what it is today to go down the drain. There are very few people with enormous amounts of money who would maintain the standards YL has put into place.
There is one other essential oil company, whose name I won’t mention, that uses the term “Therapeutic-grade” in the marketing of their essential oils. If you’ve looked around at other brands you know who the other company is.
Without going into detail, I will simply say this… that other essential oil company buys the essential oils that YL has rejected because when tested the essential oil vendors oil did not meet YL standards for purity and naturally occurring constituents. Which mean those oils do NOT pass the battery of tests that YL performs. This other company claims their oils are “Therapeutic-grade”, I can assure you that they are not.
By the way, I sure hope that you are not cooking with or ingesting that other brand of essential oils! They buy essential oils from vendors who spike their essential oils so the profile appears higher quality than it actually is.
One valuable piece of equipment that YL has can test for and identify if an essential oil has been spiked. For instance, this piece of equipment can determine if a lavender essential oil has Linalyl, which is a naturally occurring phytochemical found in many plants and flowers (other than Lavender angustifolia). Also, there is a synthetic linalyl acetate which is used as an adulterant to make an essential oil more marketable. It is also added to the much cheaper lavandin essential oil which is then sold as the more desirable Lavender Oil – this is the cheap essential oil of lavender you find in stores for under $10 per bottle and it is mildly toxic to humans and some wildlife.
Some years back a vendor who had been reputable in the past, brought to YL a batch of Helichrysum oil, YL ran it through the testing equipment and it looked beautiful and YL said they would purchase it. Then vendor brought the barrels over to YL to complete the sale, over a million dollars worth at YL cost. Because YL runs the oil again through the battery of tests before bottling, YL found that the Helichrysum oil was inferior. They contacted the vendor and told them to get the oil out of here. That Helichrysum a month later showed up as Helichrysum oil at the company whose name I am not mentioning, they were boasting that they were the ONLY essential oil company who had Helichrysum oil for sale. This occurrence has happened more than once. The oils that company sells to unknowing consumers are not the same “therapeutic-grade” standard that YL uses, not by a long shot.
What I am afraid of is the day when that company unwittingly purchases a batch of really terrible quality oils from a vendor and someone becomes fatally ill or dies from ingesting them, that would be a terrible shame and I can’t even imagine what their irresponsibility would do to the entire essential oil industry. It’s not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’. That’s why I have turned down that company’s distributors who have hounded me to come be a distributor with them. No way, never!!!
This is why I always put a note in my posts saying these recipes and tips are only for the use of YL oils, no other brand.
I say that because about 10 years ago a woman didn’t like the price of YL oils she said they were too expensive, so she went to the store and bought cheap lavender oil. When she got a burn in the kitchen she immediately put her cheap lavender oil onto the burn. The cheap lavender she bought and used wasn’t even real lavender and it worsened to the point she had to go to the hospital for a 3rd degree burn.
I began using essential oils in 1991, before YL was even a company. I had read and studied everything on aromatherapy and oils I could find. Through those sources I discovered that there was a vast difference in quality (which has only gotten worse since) and it was my life goal to find the superior quality oils I had read about. I bought essential oils in the early 1990′s and I ONLY used them for cleaning my house, I never once applied them topically, and I certainly never ingested them because I had learned enough to know that the chemicals in 98% of all essential oils in the entire world ARE adulterated with some very toxic chemicals. I knew that long before I discovered YL in 1998.
Because of all the studying I did before finding YL I went into YL knowing very well what I was looking at, and that is why I went to YL instead of someone else.
I’ve heard some say that they all (essential oils) do what they claim. That is because on some level every essential oils contains compounds that do something. I agree that they all do what they claim, to an extent. But you need to at least consider what else your body is inhaling or absorbing.
So while on the surface YL’s therapeutic-grade might seem annoying, disturbing, and a mere marketing ploy, there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than people can imagine. The difference is night and day when it comes to quality and purity, and if you are using other brands for my recipes and tips I highly suggest you stop immediately because it will only be a matter of time before you end up harming yourself, this is a very serious matter and one that should not be taken lightly. The recipes and tips I share online are ONLY intended for YL oils, no others ever.
I would never use another brand in place of YL oils for any of my tips and recipes and I expect others to honor my request when I say “do not substitute other brands for YL”
I say that not so I or YL can make sales I say it because it’s based on truth and facts. I would rather be poor and make no sales, than see a recipe I share contain an ingredient that I would never use myself. If I didn’t use my oils in certain ways before discovering YL I would certainly never encourage anyone to use anything else. I hope this clarifies the issue of therapeutic-grade, and more! What’s going on out there folks is not good and if you don’t know the difference you need to because it does matter, it’s your health, your money, and our environment that these companies are messing with in their greedy quests.
Superior quality pure essential oils are complex volatile aromatic substances distilled from specific species of plants, trees and roots. The reason why fungus, bacteria and viruses cannot mutate in the presence of therapeutic-grade essential oils is due to their complexity. With that in mind, I’m going to share with you a few of the easy things I know that will help you buy the best essential oils like a pro.
Have you ever noticed someone wearing perfume, aftershave, or perhaps scented laundry products (detergent, dryer sheets, etc.), soaps, or any other type of scented product always smells the same no matter if it’s 2 inches away from your nose or 20 feet away?
There is a reason why. It’s because it’s a chemical fragrance and there’s nothing natural about it at all, it is ‘one’ scent or a combination of chemicals that make this one scent.
Another reason why the scent stays the same is because the essential oil complex compounds have been destroyed in during processing – heat is always a destroyer of essential oil compounds and the reason why we shouldn’t use heat-type diffusers when diffusing our superior quality essential oils.
Over the years, I have been to many health food stores and when I’m in the mood for entertaining myself I will stop by the aromatherapy section and do some sniffing. While doing this never fails to make me feel like a detective sniffer dog, I at least walk away knowing what’s being sold out there… as you probably know by now, all man-made chemicals are toxic and are a significant contributor to allergies and other sensitivities.
Essential oils are NEVER distilled from:
Strawberries, blueberries, lilac, melon, papaya, ocean or sea breezes, coconut, chocolate, gardenia, banana, springtime, the beach, linen, and the list goes on and on… imagine sitting in a room with me with the TV on and an air freshener commercial comes on! These and many others, are always created from chemicals. Always!
Additionally, you can be 100 percent certain that any air freshener sold in any store contains the worst possible quality of essential oil. The reason for this is two-fold: 1) consumer demand for cheap products, and 2) shareholders demand for more and more profits. They could care less about the quality of the ingredients going into a product.
4 Steps on How To Smell Test an Essential Oil
This is one of the easiest ways to help the novice determine if an essential oil is really what it claims on the label. If you have a bottle of aromatherapy or fragrance oils go get it now and follow the instructions below and see what you discover.
- Open the cap and hold the bottle down near the navel, and inhale. What do you smell? Take note of what it smells like.
- Move the bottle upwards about 3-5 inches and inhale again. What does that same bottle of essential oil smell like now? Take note of what it smells like.
- Move the bottle upward another 3-5 inches closer to your nose, What does it smell like now? Take note of what it smells like.
- Move the bottle upwards another 3 inches or so, now it should be about 2-3 inches away from the nose. Inhale. What does it smell like now? Take note of what it smells like.
What did you discover?
Did the scent change a lot every inch of the way? Or, did it pretty much stay the same?
If the scent changed a lot every inch of the way that means the essential oil that you’re smell testing has more than likely been distilled properly and contains its complex properties.
If the scent pretty much stayed the same, or stayed exactly the same, you can now be 100 percent certain the essential oil is in fact NOT a 100% pure and unadulterated essential oil.
I only use and recommend the highest quality essential oil I have found to date, Young Living Essential Oils. It over-shadows all brands on the market. I have been so impressed by the quality that I became a distributor and this is what I do full-time. I would use and recommend the Young Living brand even if I wasn’t a distributor.
I have been using Thieves Household Cleaner since Young Living created it. It’s an all-natural (truly natural), all-purpose cleaner. We use it for cleaning everything, even our laundry (in place of all laundry detergents). Because the mixture is concentrated a small amount goes very far, making it very cost efficient. Since I began using the Thieves Household Cleaner I have not even considered using any other household cleaners at not. It is the only cleaner in my home!
I’ve found its limitations only extend to the limits of my imagination. I’ve used it with excellent results as carpet shampoo (in place of the normal caret shampoo), cleaning the upholstery in my car, mixed with baking soda and used in my sinks/toilet/shower in place of SoftScrub, as a laundry detergent (I use nothing else!), as a dish soap, for windows, walls, floors, and as a stain remover (do not let it sit long, 1-2 minutes has worked fine for me), and undiluted as an oven cleaner, and much more!
16 Ways to Use Thieves Household Cleaner
- Use for bathrooms and toilets to sanitize and freshen.
- Use to cut grease on kitchen counters, stovetops and oven cleaner.
- Use to mop floors to clean and disinfect.
- Apply to hands to remove stubborn, sticky substances like tree sap.
- Use to wash fruits and vegetables from the supermarket.
- Add to the water in your vacuum cleaner to cleanse the air.
- Use in place of carpet shampoo to shampoo and disinfect the carpet.*
- Squirt along ant trails in the house to keep them out.
- Use in school classrooms to cut down on student sickness.
- Scrub old floors to remove old varnish and prepare for refinishing.
- Clean upholstery in your living room.*
- Clean the upholstery and dashboard of your car.*
- Soak off burnt food in pots and skillets.
- Wipe or soak garbage cans to get them clean, sanitary and smelling fresh.
- For bad stains (especially good for fatty stains), pour it on as a pre-wash stain remover.* Wash clothing immediately, do not let it sit over-night as it could fade the dye.
- Use undiluted to clean and kill mold on walls and floors.
Two Sizes of Thieves Household Cleaner
Thieves Household Cleaner is available in two sizes: 14.4 oz. (item #3743) and a money-saving 64 oz. size (item #4475).
Diluting Thieves Household Cleaner
I have a couple of 32 oz. spray bottles that I bought at Lowe’s. I prefer to use the “Hudson Multi-purpose” spray bottle for two reasons, 1. They last me about 4-7 years, and 2. the price is good, the last one I bought cost about $6.
I don’t even bother with the other brands of spray bottles, and certainly I will never again waste my money on the cheap bottles, I’ve never had one last me longer than a month, what a waste!
The dilution ratio’s are also on the label of the bottle of Thieves Household Cleaner.

* I have never had a problem with this cleaner staining anything but I do recommend that you do a spot test to make sure you won’t have any marks, just in case!

I personally have never found any oral care toothpaste and mouthwash that actually cut my visits to the dental hygienist for cleanings from twice a year to once every 3-4 years. I performed my own little test, after I went in for a dental cleaning I began using the Thieves Ultra Toothpaste and Mouthwash and stopped flossing altogether.
Thieves [dentarome] Ultra Toothpaste (item #3737) and Thieves Mouthwash (item #3683) are completely free of all toxic chemicals and contain therapeutic essential oils well-known for oral health benefits.
So, six months later I went in as I normally had done for years for my regular cleaning and I was in the chair for less than 5 minutes and the hygienist couldn’t find any plaque or tartar to remove from any of my teeth! Most of that 5 minutes my hygienist gushed about what a great job I had done over the past six months flossing! As I sat there with my mouth open I thought to myself, “I haven’t used one tiny piece of floss in the past 6 months, the only thing I did do differently was change my toothpaste and mouthwash and I maintained my normal brushing routine of twice a day. The only thing that changed was the toothpaste an mouthwash.
I didn’t even bother telling her this fact because in the past when I asked then questions about how one could better care for their teeth ‘naturally’ I found resistance. So of course I didn’t even bother saying anything.
I went to the front desk and paid $100 for that 5 minutes of praise! And did not schedule another cleaning for six months later, like I had been doing for many years.
On my drive home I began thinking about how much money I would be saving over the years by switching over to Thieves toothpaste and mouthwash. Plus, the benefits I would receive by how having my gums get punctured, bloody and sore from the hygienist poking away at the plaque and tartar; which I personally don’t think is a good thing to be experiencing because of the billions of bacteria in the mouth, that bacteria gets into those tiny wounds and into the bloodstream and by now we all know that oral bacteria are bad for the heart and breasts, and I don’t even know what else!
So I was delirious happy to have discovered and tried this pair. By the way, I did try the other two, Dentarome and Dentarome Plus, but did not get these kind of results until I tried the Thieves Ultra toothpaste. At least for me, the Thieves Ultra toothpaste and Thieves mouthwash were key in getting these results.
Since then, I have used no other toothpaste or mouthwash, no matter what they claim to do, and no matter how natural they claim to be. Furthermore, both the Thieves toothpaste and mouthwash can be swallowed, rather than spit out! I do spit out the toothpaste when I am finished brushing, but I always swallow the mouthwash after swishing because I have found that my body is more healthy when I do so because of the superior ingredients, all of which are edible… no phone calls necessary to a poison control center if you or your kids swallow the Thieves toothpastes or mouthwash!
Yes, the Thieves essential oil blend in these two is also edible and can be used as a dietary supplement. When I feel a cold coming on, at the stage when I say to myself “geez, I think I’m coming down with a cold”, I don’t experience that any longer; it seems, at least to me, that the Thieves essential oil knocks out cold bugs/germs in my body, which makes sense because the oils in the blend have been known for 600+ years to help humankind ward off even the Black Plague. Which is where the name of this blend was derived, the thieves during the Black Plague during the 1400s slathered themselves with plant oils known, even back then, to ward-off all manner of germs and viruses.
The Thieves Ultra Toothpaste is a formula of edible, all-natural ingredients that gently clean and whiten teeth, freshen breath while harnessing the antimicrobial action of pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils for protection against cavities and tartar build-up.
Used in conjunction with the Thieves Mouthwash this pair is an awesome way to obtain squeaky clean teeth and benefits far outweighing store-bought toothpastes!
“Dentarome [Thieves Ultra Toothpaste] is an amazing toothpaste. The breath-freshening, teeth-cleansing and plaque-opposing properties of this formula are phenomenal. It is also very rare to see a toothpaste devoid of synthetic or carcinogenic ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate, carregeenin and artificial colors.” ~ Terry Friedmann, M.D.
What’s in Thieves Ultra Toothpaste That Make it so Good
- The inclusion of therapeutic thyme, wintergreen, peppermint and Eucalyptus globulous essential oils are in a concentration of 2.5%, these active ingredients kill bacteria that cause gingivitis, tooth decay, and bad breath.
- Therapeutic clove essential oil is also an ingredient, which has been used in dental hygiene during the early history of dentistry.
- The essential oils in the Thieves Ultra Toothpaste are encapsulated in a patented liposome complex that attaches to the mucous membranes of the mouth, creating a time-release effect for more sustained breath freshening and antiseptic action.
- Xylitol is a special five-carbon sugar alcohol that prevents the growth of bacteria such as Streptoccocus mutans (MRSA) that are responsible for tooth decay. Ingestion of xylitol has been shown to build bone strength and density in numerous well-controlled studies.
- Papain is an anti-stain enzyme derived from papayas, that keeps teeth white.
- A special, non-abrasive, more-than-850-mesh calcium (the smallest size particle size that exists in carbonate) has a unique geometric configuration that replaces sharp edges with rounded contours. Most toothpastes use 200-mesh or greater size particles, which strip away tooth enamel to soft underlying dentin. We notice then when we ‘feel’ the grittiness of store-bought toothpaste itself.
- Nano-particle zinc oxide enhances the essential oils’ effects.
- Zinc citrate stops tartar build-up around teeth.
Your Toothpaste as a Shield Against Germs
Researchers at the Tokyo Dental College noted that more than 300 different species of bacteria are found in populations of several hundred billion in the human oral cavity (read: ‘Dirtiest’ place on the body at my group blog). They estimated that this number reaches a thousand billion when the mouth is not sufficiently cleaned.
Most toothpastes available today, with harmful chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate (which is nothing more than an ingredient that makes ‘foam’ – foamy suds, whether in toothpaste, soaps or detergents foam and suds does NOT clean, through marketing we have been convinced that ‘suds’ clean things, nothing could be further from the truth), PEG-12, fluoride, artificial sweeteners, will have long-term, negative effects as they are absorbed into the blood (or skin absorbs everything we apply to it, our mouth does too but even more-so than our skin).
The May 2000 Surgeon General’s Report on oral health emphasized the connection between oral and systemic health In addition, over a hundred studies have documented a correlation between dental and periodontal infections and other acute and chronic infections in the body. [2,3,4,5]
W.J. Loesche, PhD, at the University of Michigan’s Microbiology and Immunology School of Medicine, stated:
“Maintaining good oral health should receive the highest priority for a healthy life”
Japanese researchers agree, saying:
“Oral health care, primarily mouth cleaning, is important not only for oral disease but also a healthy life.”

First, you need to know that approximately 98 percent of all essential oils in the entire world are adulterated, contain harmful chemicals, and should never be ingested. And that is precisely the reason why I only use and recommend the Young Living brand of essential oils for both aromatherapy purposes and for all other applications of essential oils. I am not a distributor for Young Living due to any other reason. Nearly 30 years ago, I read in an essential oil book that provided one could find superior quality essential oils -and- provided the essential oils came from an “edible” plant that they could be used for flavoring foods and they could also be taken as a dietary supplement.
How to Quickly Determine if an Essential Oil Can Be Ingested
Look at the ‘back’ of the label.
If there is a dietary “Supplement Facts” box ( you know the little white box on all edible packaged foods) it indicates that the essential oil has passed all government tests that state if something is edible or not.
Here’s a picture of what that “Supplement Facts” box looks like…
If the little white colored box is not on the label then do NOT ingest the essential oil for any reason whatsoever!
You won’t even need your reading glasses to see this white colored Supplement Fact box.
A Closer Look at a Young Living Label
I have added this segment based on a comment. A reader said she has been using the Young Living oils internally and “none of the Young Living bottles have the white ‘Supplement Facts’ box.”
Truth is, all of the Young Living essential oils that are distilled from edible plants do have the ‘white’ supplement facts. As shown in these images below… take a look at the label again…
Note the “Peel Here” words. Once you peel the label back it opens up to reveal the “Supplement Facts” (‘white’) box I’m speaking about.
The essential oil from Young Living that I am using as my example in photo’s is Copaiba…
What’s on Most Essential Oil Bottle Labels?
Regardless of whether or not the label says “Pure” or “Organic” or “100% Pure” is never an indicator of purity.
What 98 percent of most brands say on the label is, “Not for Internal Use” or “Not Intended to be Ingested.”
Which Essential Oils are Edible?
The super-short answer is, any essential oil that has been properly distilled from a herb, tree or root, that is considered and known to be edible.
Some very common edible plants are:
These will sound exactly like your cooking herbs and herbal teas…
Basil, Cardamon, Sage, Oregano, Thyme, Black Pepper, Celery Seed, Clove, Fennel, Chamomile, Dill, Ginger, Lemongrass, Lemon, Orange, Tangerine, Lime, Mountain Savory, Rosemary, Grapefruit, Peppermint, Spearmint, and Tarragon.
Some lesser known edible plants are:
Some of these may surprise you…
Bergamot, Angelica, Carrot Seed, Cistus, Cedarwood, Cinnamon Bark (NOT Cinnamon Leaf!), Citronella, Clary Sage, Copaiba, Frankincense, Geranium, Eucalyptus globulus, Idaho Balsam Fir, Idaho Blue Spruce, Helichrysum, Goldenrod, Juniper, Lavender, Laurus nobilis, Lemon Myrtle, Melissa, Myrrh, Neroli, Ocotea, Myrtle, Nutmeg, Palmarosa, Pine, Patchouli, Petitgrain, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Valerian, and Ylang Ylang.
Have you bought essential oils before?
Have you ever bought Rose, or Frankincense, or Neroli essential oils before?
Did the bottle label have a “Supplement Facts” box on the label?
Over the years, when I have been in health food stores and saw an essential oil display I couldn’t help but go over and pick up a bottle of Rose and Frankincense, and look at the label to see if that little white box was there. I have never seen yet any brand of Rose or Frankincense essential oil in a health food store that is safe to ingest, not a single one.
The reason I head straight for a company’s Rose and Frankincense oils is because I know that in order for a company to produce an essential oil safe for ingesting that it is extremely expensive, Rose and Frankincense are two of the most expensive out there.
It has been my feeling that if a company cannot produce a Rose or Frankincense essential oil that is safe for ingesting then what they’re selling is nothing more than junk, and unsafe junk at that!
If a Rose or Frankincense oil is not safe for me to flavor my foods, beverages, or to take as a supplement, to me it is an indicator that the company is concerned with nothing more than making money on unwary consumers.
Furthermore, if their Rose or Frankincense oils are not suitable for ingesting, you better believe that I don’t want their essential oils on my skin, in products I use, or diffused in my air because they do contain some horrible chemicals… I don’t care if their label states the oil is “organic” or “100% Pure” or “wildcrafted”, none of those are terms that indicate purity or superior quality.
I hate to think that some even went through the steps of carefully growing the plants organically or ethically wildcrafting, only to turn around and ruin the plant material to produce an unfit product.
A Word on Essential Oils in Mass-Produced Products
By now, you probably know where I’m going to go with this… far fewer than 2 percent of manufacturers in the entire world who do add essential oils to their cleaning, household, and personal care products, use the best essential oils available.
That means, 100 percent of all products sold in supermarkets, box stores and yes, even in the health food stores, that list and essential oil as an ingredient contain an essential oil that in my humble opinion is not fit to even be a safe ingredient.
This includes the “eco”, “all-natural”, “organic”, and “Green” products, whether they’ve been made for air fresheners, soaps, personal care, laundry or dish washing, household cleaners, or candles, they all contain un-fit quality essential oils. All of which expose us to unknown and very toxic chemicals.
Can we blame them? I don’t really know for sure. They claim that their customers are price conscious and want lower prices. Some also have shareholders who they have to keep a watchful eye on profits. In either case, I have not believed that any of them have had consumer safety as their number one priority, if they did there’s no way they would be producing and marketing these products.
What they are doing is nothing short of “green-washing” their brand to maintain customer loyalty. Billions are spent every year in PR reassuring and/or convincing consumers that they have a product we need and it’s safe, when in fact it’s not.
I am old enough to know that there once was a law that prevented company’s from misrepresenting a product. Are you old enough to remember that law too? I think it should be re-instated because today it is nothing more than a free-for-all and I’m fairly certain that if the law still existed that there would be many company’s and products that would not be made, nor would they be available today. I prefer “honesty”, which is something in short supply these days particularly when money is involved.
I’m just scratching the surface of the topic in this post because I believe honesty does have value and because I believe people need to know what they’re getting. It’s always been my belief that the more I know about something, the better I am equipped to make a wise decision and a smart choice.
The only company that I am aware of who uses superior quality essential oils is Young Living Essential Oils. And that’s why I have been using their products since the 1990s and why I became a distributor in the early 2000′s, I care and we all have the Right to Know.
I originally wrote and posted this on the Young Living Circle Blog and thought it would be a good idea to post it over here too since the readership is different and it may be helpful to others who may not know that there is a HUGE different between an herbal “infusion” and an essential oil. So huge is the difference that they cannot even be considered the same or spoken about as the same. So here is the difference…
Making Your Own Essential Oils: an Essential Oil is NOT an Herbal Infusion
I’ve been somewhat concerned by instructions I’ve seen online about how to make your own essential oils at home, easily and cheaply.
I have seen online recipes, video’s and techniques for making your own essential oils by putting the plant material into a mason jar and then topping off with olive oil (or another kind of carrier oil) and letting it sit for a couple of weeks.
They claim that this is “how you can make your own essential oils” and/or blends of essential oils. These methods are far from accurate and providing you with any real benefits.
Yesterday I wrote where it takes several hundred pounds of Melissa plant material to make a pound of essential oil… how much essential oil do you think is going to be in one mason jar filled with olive oil and the herb of your choice? A nano fraction of one particle would be the correct answer.
While the concoction in those mason jar recipes and techniques ‘may’ smell nice I feel I need to tell you that you are guaranteed to have an extremely weak finished product compared to one drop of a pure therapeutic-grade of essential oil.
Those techniques, recipes and video’s, are instructing you to make what is known as an “herbal infusion” – they are NOT an easy and cheap way to make your own essential oils.
An herbal infusion is not, nor has it ever been, a method for making your own essential oils.
An herbal infusion is made when you combine herb plant material and a menstrum and allow it to sit for 2-8 weeks, shaking the jar daily. A menstrum is a solvent used in extracting compounds from plant material. In this case, the menstrum is olive oil. A menstrum for making herbal tinctures would be a grain alcohol or vegetable glycerin.
Essential oils are “distilled” or “cold-pressed” using specialized equipment by methods of steam and pressure on the distillation tanks. An essential oil is never made by plant material sitting in a vessel of olive oil.
Making “herbal infusions” have their benefits and there is a place for them in your kitchen and medicine cabinet.
However, those who are promoting a method of making your own essential oils at home and getting the same benefits as an essential oil are ignorant, don’t know the difference, and really don’t know what is involved with making a pure therapeutic-grade essential oil.
Now you know the difference!
Enjoy making herbal infused concoctions, and obtaining the wellness benefits of superior essential oils – now you’ve got the best of both worlds!
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it. Lavender is an adaptogen, and therefore can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime, yet has balancing properties that can also boost stamina and energy.
How to Make and Use Lavender Carpet Freshener
Mix one cup of baking soda with 4-7 drops of Lavender essential oil in a glass jar that is meant to hold red pepper flakes for pizza’s. Stir well so that the essential oil is evenly mixed throughout.
Sprinkle the baking soda mixture around the carpet and let it sit for a few minutes and then vacuum.
Your carpet and room will smell great and you may get the added benefit of feeling calmer and balanced.
For really bad odors, try using Purification essential oil blend in place of Lavender.
This 100% natural carpet freshener will mean that you never have to worry about exposing yourself, children or pets to harmful chemicals. It’s much cheaper than store bought products too!

* Caution: NEVER substitute another brand of essential oil (not even “pure” or “organic”) for ingesting! Approximately 98% of all essential oils in the world cannot be used internally due to poor distillation and the addition of toxic chemicals. These tips and recipes are only intended for the use of Young Living Essential Oils.
Just recently I was having a conversation with someone I know who is studying to become a doctors assistant and we were discussing something she had learned that day, I would like to share what she told me so that maybe it will help some readers who are trying to deal with insurance companies during Stage 4 cancer.
In the insurance class students are being taught that when someone with Stage 4 cancer files a claim it will immediately be rejected. If the person with Stage 4 cancer wants their insurance to cover them they must produce documents and for a second time submit their claim, only to be denied insurance coverage for a second time. In order to file a claim again they need to jump through more hoops. It is after the third time the Stage 4 cancer patient submits their file will they be approved.
To make matters more complicated, the Stage 4 cancer patient needs to get their third file in for insurance coverage in within three months!
I was appalled to learn of this practice. I can only imagine what it must be like to have Stage 4 cancer and to be treated by the insurance companies, or anyone for that matter, in such a way. I don’t believe it’s ethical, necessary, or right.
Thought you would like to know about this fact, it might be helpful during a challenging time. Many blessings to you all and may you never have to go through this horrible experience.
Thieves essential oil is a blend of highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-infectious essential oils. Thieves was created from research of a group of 15th-century thieves, the ’4 thieves’, who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the deadly plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying. When apprehended, these thieves disclosed the formula of herbs, spices, and oils they used to protect themselves in exchange for more lenient punishment. It is the story of these 4 thieves which brought forth the popular essential oil blend called Thieves.
Studies conducted at Weber State University (Ogden, UT) during 1997 demonstrated its killing power against airborne microorganisms.

For the past year my boyfriend and I had been living off-the-grid which has been quite interesting. Being nature lover’s and enjoying living simply Curt and I at times were challenged to keep up with the websites we had on the internet and another one that was extremely slow to complete due to the lack of electricity and internet connection while living off-the-grid. We recently moved and we are living now with unlimited electric and internet use… in other words, we’re back!
A couple days ago we got our other website finished and launched. In it we write on a variety of topics: energy conservation, what’s really ‘green’, gardening, tools (selecting and using), emergency preparedness (everything from essential oil First Aid kits to living without), living in beauty (spiritual), fun stuff, aromatherapy, food (natural and organic), cooking, our yummy favorite recipes (includes meats/organic/vegetarian/desserts), primitive skills, old ways, natural building, SEO and web stuff (Curt’s a geek), things that suck (things that aren’t good), things that matter (things that touch our hearts in meaningful ways), and much more. It’s a site on things we’re interested in, do, have done, and use. Check it out and share it with your friends who you think would be interested also… http://SacredHabitats.com
