Summertime Skin Care, Anti-aging and Antioxidants (essential oils and NingXia Red)

Sunburn and antioxidants are two things I have never put together until this past week, I’m not entirely sure why but now I’m realizing why how it makes so much sense!

The short version of what I learned is that when we support our bodies, both internally and topically, with antioxidants we are providing many benefits: anti-aging, cell and DNA repair, faster healing from sun skin damage, and free radical scavengers.

The inclusion of essential oils in this weeks topical recipes provides “antioxidant” protection and healing against free radicals:NingXia-Red-for-2013

Free radicals form during first interaction with the sun’s rays, and “cascade” into various different forms until our body tends to them with natural antioxidant defenses.

  • Many essential oils have exceptionally high natural antioxidant levels
  • In a study, Myrrh out performed a man-made antioxidant
  • Helichrysum is a skin healing super-power, a must for mature skin
  • Frankincense and Sandalwood have protective actions, anti-cancer

But to create a well-rounded healing and protective difference it’s also important to ingest foods, beverages, and essential oils known for their high levels of antioxidants. Some of those are:

NingXia Red Antioxidant Energy Juice

This is Young Living’s red energy, nutrient juice and it is prefect to use in place of other beverages, at least once a day. NingXia Red’s ORAC, S-ORAC and antioxidant levels are off the charts higher than any other beverage on the market – far superior to all of them (yes, YL has sent samples of all of them to a third-party lab, Brunswick Labs, where the antioxidant levels were so high that Gary Young sent samples back to the lab three times because he thought the tests couldn’t possibly be correct. The last time Brunswick Labs told Gary that they weren’t going to test another sample of NingXia Red again and that Gary needed to accept the test results from the three samples sent in. If you’re not drinking 2-4 oz. of NingXia Red a day you’re really missing the boat on something fabulous for your health.

There are many ways to use NingXia Red, some are:

NingXia Red Beverages: Dilute with 2-8 ozs. of water, or add 2 oz. to your orange juice/smoothies/green juices/chocolate milk/ginger ale/etc., or drizzle on top of a fresh fruit salad/ice cream/yogurt.

NingXia Red take-along packs: (30 pk. #3168 -or- 100 pk. #3169) these are perfect for vacations, traveling, picnics, lunch boxes. But one of my favorite tips I can share is to just put some of the little packs in the freezer to make delicious freeze pops! Cut off the top of the frozen packs and eat it just like a freeze pop. I love these for desserts on hot summer days!

Children and dogs love NingXia Red – and it’s good for them too! Just give them smaller amounts.

More on NingXia Red

Clove Essential Oil

The Young Living clove bud essential oil is edible (just 1-2 drops is all that’s needed) and amazingly high in antioxidants – so high in fact that there is no other edible plant on earth that comes close!Clove_Oil

Clove oil is considered a ‘hot’ (as in spicy) essential oil so it always needs to be diluted with a carrier in both topical and internal applications.

Clove in a Beverage: add one drop daily to your glass of NingXia Red –or– add 1 drop to a cup of tea/smoothie/green juice/etc. –or– put one drop in a capsule (#3193) with a little olive oil daily for adults only.

Extra Tip

d-limonene has been extensively studied for its cancer prevention and other health benefits. d-limonene is found in high levels in these essential oils: Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit and Frankincense.

Consider adding 1-3 drops of any of these essential oils to your beverages or your capsule daily too!

Do NOT apply the citrus essential oils topically as they cause photosensitivity.

Enjoy the summer more safely and smartly!

NingXia Red Antioxidant Energy Juice (all-natural)

I love NingXia Red! (pronounced ning-sha red)

With this red energy juice on the market I see no reason to drink any other. The flavor and benefits cannot be beat, seriously! NingXia Red trounces all other energy juices.

Super-high in antioxidants and d-limonene – tastes so good you might not think it’s supportive to body and immune functions.

What makes NingXia Red different, in my humble opinion is the inclusion of essential oils. Apparently the essential oils have a synergistic effect with the berries – which is why it trounces all (yes, I do mean all) of its competitors.

What’s NOT in NingXia Red That Makes it So Good…

  • No junk juices
  • No sugar or high-frutose corn sugar (HFCS)
  • No caffeine or other unhealthy stimulants

Disinfecting Essential Oil Bathroom Cleaner Recipe

Lavender-Oil-2013Today’s tip is a recipe that contains essential oils well-known for their powerful antibacterial and antiviral properties, making them an excellent choice for bathrooms. The combination of essential oils in this recipe smell amazing too!

When I began using essential oils nearly 30 years ago making my own disinfecting bathroom spray cleaner was the first thing I did. Ever since then I have never used any other cleaners, none at all!

And when you consider that a 15ml bottle of essential oil contains about 250 drops I have saved myself a small fortune over the years – it is super easy to make this recipe, it smells FAR better than anything you can buy in the store and it’s eco-friendly!

The other thing I prefer for my cleaning recipes is a better quality essential oil – because then I know I am not getting some diluted down, adulterated essential oil with god knows what kind of toxins in it – which would have defeated the purpose of why I began using essential oils in the first place, to get the artificial all-natural cleaning products out of my home.

Disinfecting Essential Oil Bathroom Cleaner Recipe

You will need:Rosemary3626

  • 32 oz. spray bottle (the “Hudson” brand spray bottle found at Lowe’s is the best quality and very durable)
  •
12 drops Spearmint
  •
10 drops Orange or Lemon or Tangerine
  • 8 drops Lavender
  •
8 drops Thyme
  • 6 drops Rosemary CT cineol
  • 4 drops Eucalyptus globulus
  •
water

Fill spray bottle with water, add your Young Living essential oils.

Shake the mixture well and periodically during use.

Use this spray to clean and disinfect all bathroom surfaces.

Are Essential Oils Safe for Children Part 3

This is part three of a series, please be sure to read all three parts to obtain a complete understanding of how Young Living essential oils can be safely used with children. Part 1 covers how hospitals across the USA are incorporating the use of superior quality essential oils, such as Young Living’s, as an integrated modality with children. This series is only a primer and please do keep in mind that children, like adults, respond uniquely to natural additions in any wellness routine. And, part 2 covers different situations where one might choose to use a YL essential oil and how they would be used. But like I said, read all three parts so you have a complete understanding.

Also, I cannot stress this point enough, essential oils are NOT created equally. It is estimated that 98% of all essential oils in the world are adulterated. On this blog and my website, I am ONLY referring to the use of the Young Living brand. I personally would never use or recommend another brand, even if it’s a brand sold in a health food store.Lavender-Oil-2013

About Young Living Essential Oils

Young Living Essential Oils is world-renowned for its essential oils and oil blends, oil-infused nutritional supplements, bath and body products, skin-care solutions, and natural preparations for the home.

* These uses ONLY pertain to the Young Living brand of essential oils.

** All citrus essential oils and Bergamot essential oil can cause photosensitivity to the skin, which means do not skin that has these essential oils on it to be exposed to UV light for 18-24 hours. Some blends DO contain citrus essential oils or Bergamot essential oil, so read the label for ingredients!

Are Essential Oils Safe for Children Part 2

This is part two in a series of three on using essential oils safely with children. Part 1 covers how hospitals across the USA are incorporating the use of superior quality essential oils, such as Young Living’s, as an integrated modality with children. This series is only a primer and please do keep in mind that children, like adults, respond uniquely to natural additions in any wellness routine. And, part 3 covers YL essential oils that children have gotten good results using.

I cannot stress this point enough, essential oils are NOT created equally. It is estimated that 98% of all essential oils in the world are adulterated. On this blog and my website, I am ONLY referring to the use of the Young Living brand. I personally would never use or recommend another brand, even if it’s a brand sold in a health food store.

Since the YL essential oils are superior quality and extremely potent and they are always used by the drop. Never use a YL essential oil buy the handful on children or adults!

How to make an essential oil compress for children

One type of application for children (or adults with very sensitive skin) which is very mild is a compress. Here is how one is made:

  • Place 5-15 drops of your YL essential oil into a basin filled with warm water.
  • Water temperature should be approximately 100 degrees F (38 degrees C), unless the person suffers from neurological conditions; in that case, use cool water.
  • Vigorously agitate the water and let it stand for 1 minute.
  • Place a dry washcloth on top of the water to soak up the essential oils that have floated to the top of the water.
  • Wring the water out the washcloth and apply the washcloth on the location (never apply the washcloth on the eye area). To seal in the warmth, cover the location with a thick towel for 15-30 minutes.

Note: it is possible that the essential oil chosen for the compress causes a warming or burning sensation, especially where the greatest benefits are occurring. If the burning or too hot sensation becomes uncomfortable, apply some V-6 Massage Oil to the location. You may want to not reapply the essential oil washcloth, if that is the case; after applying the V-6 cover the location with the thick towel to keep warmth in.

Cold Pack Application

For children, dilute your chosen YL essential oil with V-6 Massage Oil, then apply the mixture to the location of inflammation or swollen tissues. Frozen packs of peas or corn make excellent ice packs that will mold to the contours of the body part and will not leak. Keep the cold pack on until swelling diminishes.

For neurological problems, always use cold packs, never hot packs.

Massage for Aches and Discomforts

Again for children, dilute your chosen YL essential oil with V-6 Massage Oil, then apply the mixture to the location of muscle discomfort.

Insect Bites and Stings

Bites and stings on children are almost always lessened by using YL Lavender essential oil (#3575).

Another YL product that is very popular among children for insect bites, burns/sunburn, and itchy skin, is LavaDerm Cooling Mist (#3249), this is a spray.

Note: NEVER use cheap Lavender for any topical use with children because it is almost always lavindin, which is a completely different species of plant and does NOT contain the same benefits and it will make any first aid situation worse!

For very bad insect stings you may need something stronger, Thieves essential oil (#3423) would be your second choice. Of course you will want to dilute this “hot” essential oil with V-6 before application.

Scrapes and Small Cuts

LavaDerm Cooling Mist (#3249) contains YL Lavender essential oils as one of its ingredients and is very soothing to scraped up skin.LavaDerm-Lavender-Skin

For smaller cuts and minor abrasions you would use Thieves Spray on the location to cleanse bacteria out of larger cuts and wounds.

Burns and Sunburn

LavaDerm Cooling Mist (#3249) is what to use, it is spray and you would spray it onto sunburned skin often so that the skin stays hydrated. If the burn is bad, seek immediate medical attention and on the way to the doctor spray LavaDerm onto the location to keep it clean. Lavender essential oil in this spray has antiseptic and antibacterial properties.

Fever

The YL Peppermint essential oil (#3614) is widely used to bring down a fever in both children and adults. For a fever, apply 4-7 drops on the soles of each foot. The fever should be down or gone within 30 minutes.

When YL essential oils, like peppermint for a fever, it’s not necessary to dilute the essential oil because the soles of the feet are not considered to be a sensitive skin area. However, please, use your own judgement and always apply V-6 whenever there is sensitivity.

Using a Diffuser

Using a diffuser around the home can be a very effective way to keep the entire family healthy. When YL essential oils are diffused in the TheraPro Premium Diffuser (#4495) a micro-fine mist of essential oil is put into the air, when the mist of essential oil comes into contact with cold or flu germs they can destroy them.TheraPro-Diffuser-Thieves-2

Diffusing can also be useful for congestion, due to colds or flu. The inhalation of the essential oil can help break-up congestion and provide some relief from cold and flu symptoms.

The TheraPro Diffuser is easy to use, it has a speed control knob and built-in timer. It is the most versatile YL has in its line.

To help keep your family from missed days of school and work due to colds and flu, diffuse for 15-30 minutes, 3-5 times a day.

never use ‘heat’ to diffuse your YL essential oil as the heat destroys the beneficial molecules rendering them useless (it will still smell nice if you use heat but there will not be any therapeutic benefits).

Note: do NOT dilute your YL essential oils for diffusing as this could ruin your diffuser. Instead, use the timer and diffuser more often and for shorter periods of time to conserve your essential oils.

Good essential oil blends to diffuse for…

  • Eliminating cold and flu germs in the house are: Thieves (#3423), Purification (#3399) – use a diffuser for this.Gentle-Baby-Oil-3
  • Calming: Peace & Calming (#3393), Gentle Baby (#3345).
  • Uplifting spirits: Joy (#3372), Harmony (#3351).
  • Retention during study-time: Brain Power (#3313), Clarity (#3321).
  • Possible help for ADD/ADHD: a 50/50 mix of Sandalwood (#3634) and Ylang Ylang (#3659).
  • Emotional trauma: SARA (#3417), Trauma Life (#6350).
  • Troubles sleeping: Lavender (a single #3575), Peace & Calming (#3393).
  • Monsters in the bedroom: Valor (#3429), White Angelica (#3432)
  • Congestion from Colds: R.C. (#3405) – diffused and/or applied diluted to chest and back.

As always though, it is far cheaper and easier to ‘prevent’ illness than it is to get over it. For that reason, I highly recommend the Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier (#3622 3-pk), this is perfect for kids backpacks, working mom’s and dad’s, and families on the go! A tiny dab rubbed on the hands acts as an essential oil barrier to help kill germs and viruses that we come in contact with through touching things.

Thieves-Hand-Soap-Spray

Each time you use the Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier you will know that you are not exposing yourself and kids to the chemical antibiotics found in similar hand sanitizers. You will also be playing a large role in the ‘prevention’ of creating super germs (those bacteria and viruses which have been mutating a resistance to antibacterial products in recent years). Superior quality essential oils are compromised of complex molecular antibiotic compounds, unlike simple chemical antibiotics (which are easy for bacteria and viruses to develop resistant to).

Ingredients in Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier: Denatured ethanol SD-38B (denatured with Peppermint Essential Oil, not chemicals), water, aloe barbadensis leaf, vegetable glycerin, syzygium aromaticum† (clove) flower bud oil, citrus limon† (lemon) peel oil, cinnamon verum† (cinnamon) bark oil, eucalyptus radiate† leaf oil, rosmarinus officinalis† (rosemary) leaf oil, and hydroxylpropyl cellulose.

NEVER DO THESE 6 THINGS!!!

  1. Never dilute an essential oil that is already on the skin with water, essential oils at NOT diluted with the use of water. ALWAYS use your V-6 as your carrier oil, if you have run out of V-6 you can use Extra Virgin Olive Oil or any other high quality carrier oil.
  2. Never allow a child to ingest an essential oil unless otherwise instructed by an aromatherapist or other medical practitioner.
  3. Never apply any essential oil, even if it is diluted, near or to the eyes or in the ear.
  4. Never allow children to play with your essential oils, they are not play-things.
  5. Never apply essential oils topically to an infant or baby, their bodies are too delicate and too young for such potent things.
  6. Never leave your diffuser running all night close to a child. And never allow them to directly inhale from the diffuser.

Are Essential Oils Safe for Children Part 1

Kids-People-Lavender-FarmThe therapeutic use of essential oils has a long tradition dating back to at least 4500 BC, and their accessibility and relevance in modern, alternative health care is growing. Scientific research increasingly shows the efficacy of essential oils, that which our ancestors have known for centuries.

Hospitals throughout the country, including Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., have integrated essential oils into medical aromatherapy programs to promote physical and psychological well-being in children.

In a study on the use of aromatherapy in children at the St. Mary’s Hospital in London, several topically applied, superior quality, essential oils were found to enhance the experience of children in the hospital environment.

“Aromatherapy massage has the potential to induce relaxation and reduce the stressful aspects of hospitalization,” said the lead author J. L. Styles. “Thus, the author would like to propose the use of this valuable skill as an extension of the nursing role.”

Aromatherapy Oils and Cheap Oils are Vastly Different than Therapeutic Oils

In an article published by The Journal of the American Botanical Council, Dr. Jane Buckle warns that the vast array of low-cost aromatherapy products on the market usually contain synthetic fragrances. Synthetic compounds are not part of aromatherapy, and such compounds have been linked to the growing emergence of fragrance sensitivity.

Scientific Studies on Therapeutic Essential Oils

Consumers can search PubMed (the U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health) for nearly 12,000 peer-reviewed research reports on the benefits of unadulterated essential oils.

Application: Before You Start

Many high-quality, unadulterated essential oils [such as Young Living] are gentle enough to be used on children. Treat the YL essential oils as you would any product for medicinal use, and keep them out of the reach of children.

You can use many YL essential oils anywhere on the body except on the eyes and in the ears.

Some essential oils may irritate certain sensitive tissues and should always be diluted with children.

Keep “hot” essential oils such as: oregano, cinnamon, thyme, eucalyptus, mountain savory, lemon and the blends Thieves, PanAway, Relieve It, and Exodus II out of reach of children. These essential oils should always be diluted with both children and adults.

For children, the dilution ratio would be 15-30 drops of YL essential oil to 1 oz. of V-6 Massage Oil (an edible superior quality massage oil for extending and diluting your YL essential oils).

One type of application for children (or adults with very sensitive skin) which is very mild is a compress.

How to Quickly Tell if an Essential Oil Can Be Ingested

First, you need to know that approximately 98 percent of all essential oils in the entire world are adulterated, contain harmful chemicals, and should never be ingested. And that is precisely the reason why I only use and recommend the Young Living brand of essential oils for both aromatherapy purposes and for all other applications of essential oils. I am not a distributor for Young Living due to any other reason. Nearly 30 years ago, I read in an essential oil book that provided one could find superior quality essential oils -and- provided the essential oils came from an “edible” plant that they could be used for flavoring foods and they could also be taken as a dietary supplement.

How to Quickly Determine if an Essential Oil Can Be Ingested

Look at the ‘back’ of the label.Label-Internal-Supplement

If there is a dietary “Supplement Facts” box ( you know the little white box on all edible packaged foods) it indicates that the essential oil has passed all government tests that state if something is edible or not.

Here’s a picture of what that “Supplement Facts” box looks like…

If the little white colored box is not on the label then do NOT ingest the essential oil for any reason whatsoever!

You won’t even need your reading glasses to see this white colored Supplement Fact box.

A Closer Look at a Young Living Label

I have added this segment based on a comment. A reader said she has been using the Young Living oils internally and “none of the Young Living bottles have the white ‘Supplement Facts’ box.”

Truth is, all of the Young Living essential oils that are distilled from edible plants do have the ‘white’ supplement facts. As shown in these images below… take a look at the label again…

Note the “Peel Here” words. Once you peel the label back it opens up to reveal the “Supplement Facts” (‘white’) box I’m speaking about.

The essential oil from Young Living that I am using as my example in photo’s is Copaiba…

What’s on Most Essential Oil Bottle Labels?

Regardless of whether or not the label says “Pure” or “Organic” or “100% Pure” is never an indicator of purity.

What 98 percent of most brands say on the label is, “Not for Internal Use” or “Not Intended to be Ingested.”

Which Essential Oils are Edible?

The super-short answer is, any essential oil that has been properly distilled from a herb, tree or root, that is considered and known to be edible.

Some very common edible plants are:

These will sound exactly like your cooking herbs and herbal teas…

Basil, Cardamon, Sage, Oregano, Thyme, Black Pepper, Celery Seed, Clove, Fennel, Chamomile, Dill, Ginger, Lemongrass, Lemon, Orange, Tangerine, Lime, Mountain Savory, Rosemary, Grapefruit, Peppermint, Spearmint, and Tarragon.

Some lesser known edible plants are:

Some of these may surprise you…

Bergamot, Angelica, Carrot Seed, Cistus, Cedarwood, Cinnamon Bark (NOT Cinnamon Leaf!), Citronella, Clary Sage, Copaiba, Frankincense, Geranium, Eucalyptus globulus, Idaho Balsam Fir, Idaho Blue Spruce, Helichrysum, Goldenrod, Juniper, Lavender, Laurus nobilis, Lemon Myrtle, Melissa, Myrrh, Neroli, Ocotea, Myrtle, Nutmeg, Palmarosa, Pine, Patchouli, Petitgrain, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Valerian, and Ylang Ylang.

Have you bought essential oils before?

Have you ever bought Rose, or Frankincense, or Neroli essential oils before?

Did the bottle label have a “Supplement Facts” box on the label?

Over the years, when I have been in health food stores and saw an essential oil display I couldn’t help but go over and pick up a bottle of Rose and Frankincense, and look at the label to see if that little white box was there. I have never seen yet any brand of Rose or Frankincense essential oil in a health food store that is safe to ingest, not a single one.

The reason I head straight for a company’s Rose and Frankincense oils is because I know that in order for a company to produce an essential oil safe for ingesting that it is extremely expensive, Rose and Frankincense are two of the most expensive out there.

It has been my feeling that if a company cannot produce a Rose or Frankincense essential oil that is safe for ingesting then what they’re selling is nothing more than junk, and unsafe junk at that!

If a Rose or Frankincense oil is not safe for me to flavor my foods, beverages, or to take as a supplement, to me it is an indicator that the company is concerned with nothing more than making money on unwary consumers.

Furthermore, if their Rose or Frankincense oils are not suitable for ingesting, you better believe that I don’t want their essential oils on my skin, in products I use, or diffused in my air because they do contain some horrible chemicals… I don’t care if their label states the oil is “organic” or “100% Pure” or “wildcrafted”, none of those are terms that indicate purity or superior quality.

I hate to think that some even went through the steps of carefully growing the plants organically or ethically wildcrafting, only to turn around and ruin the plant material to produce an unfit product.

A Word on Essential Oils in Mass-Produced Products

By now, you probably know where I’m going to go with this… far fewer than 2 percent of manufacturers in the entire world who do add essential oils to their cleaning, household, and personal care products, use the best essential oils available.

That means, 100 percent of all products sold in supermarkets, box stores and yes, even in the health food stores, that list and essential oil as an ingredient contain an essential oil that in my humble opinion is not fit to even be a safe ingredient.

This includes the “eco”, “all-natural”, “organic”, and “Green” products, whether they’ve been made for air fresheners, soaps, personal care, laundry or dish washing, household cleaners, or candles, they all contain un-fit quality essential oils. All of which expose us to unknown and very toxic chemicals.

Can we blame them? I don’t really know for sure. They claim that their customers are price conscious and want lower prices. Some also have shareholders who they have to keep a watchful eye on profits. In either case, I have not believed that any of them have had  consumer safety as their number one priority, if they did there’s no way they would be producing and marketing these products.

What they are doing is nothing short of “green-washing” their brand to maintain customer loyalty. Billions are spent every year in PR reassuring and/or convincing consumers that they have a product we need and it’s safe, when in fact it’s not.

I am old enough to know that there once was a law that prevented company’s from misrepresenting a product. Are you old enough to remember that law too? I think it should be re-instated because today it is nothing more than a free-for-all and I’m fairly certain that if the law still existed that there would be many company’s and products that would not be made, nor would they be available today. I prefer “honesty”, which is something in short supply these days particularly when money is involved.

I’m just scratching the surface of the topic in this post because I believe honesty does have value and because I believe people need to know what they’re getting. It’s always been my belief that the more I know about something, the better I am equipped to make a wise decision and a smart choice.

The only company that I am aware of who uses superior quality essential oils is Young Living Essential Oils. And that’s why I have been using their products since the 1990s and why I became a distributor in the early 2000’s, I care and we all have the Right to Know.

Melrose contains these theapeutic-grade essential oils: Melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia), naouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), and clove (Syzygium aromaticum). The combination of essential oils in this blend are well-known for assisting in the healing of foot and nail fungus’, perhaps it is the synergistic effect of this blend of oils which explains why foot and nail fungus is cleared up quite quickly and why it is found to be more effective than Tea Tree alone.

50 Ways to Use Thieves Essential Oil

Thieves essential oil is a blend of highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-infectious essential oils. Thieves was created from research of a group of 15th-century thieves, the ‘4 thieves’, who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the deadly plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying. When apprehended, these thieves disclosed the formula of herbs, spices, and oils they used to protect themselves in exchange for more lenient punishment. It is the story of these 4 thieves which brought forth the popular essential oil blend called Thieves.Thieves-Oil-2013

Studies conducted at Weber State University (Ogden, UT) during 1997 demonstrated its killing power against airborne microorganisms.

  • One analysis showed a 90 percent reduction in the number of gram positive Micrococcus luteus organisms after diffusing for 12 minutes. After 20 minutes of diffusing, the kill rate jumped to 99.3 percent.
  • Another study against the gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed a kill rate of 99.96 percent after just 12 minutes of diffusion.

By combining Thieves essential oil with a few basic household items such as; vinegar, baking soda, olive oil, V-6 Massage Oil, or water – you can easily create various different cleaning products and simple first aid remedies.

Protect yourself naturally with Thieves essential oil. The scent of this blend of essential oils is really nice; somewhat spicy, while fresh and clean smelling. And the best part… it is perfect for those who prefer to have an all-natural home!

Not only is Thieves and essential oil but it is an entire line of products! Learn more about the Thieves products and about how to save 24 percent off retail by purchasing the Start Living with Thieves kit.

The highest quality Ylang Ylang oil is drawn from the first distillation and is known as ylang ylang complete. The last distillation, known as the tail, is of inferior quality and is called “cananga.”

Ylang Ylang essential oil is balancing to male-female energies, enhances spiritual attunement, helps combat anger and low self-esteem, helps increase focus of thoughts and filters out negative energy, anxiety, anti-parasitic, anti-spasmodic, and anti-inflammatory.

Ylang ylang is extremely effective in calming and bringing about a sense of relaxation, and it may help with releasing feelings of anger, tension, and nervous irritability. Ylang Ylang also has a long history in skin and hair care products, particularly in Asia, where it is used to promote thick, shiny, luxuriant hair. Leg Cramp Essential Oil Blend

The stories my friend Tammy has told me about her own experiences using Young Living Essential Oils has been nothing short of amazing, she’s absolutely brilliant when it comes to making up blends for different causes. Recently she began a website where she is offering essential oil blends that she has formulated using therapeutic-grade essential oils for horse, rider and dogs. Check it out at HeadandHoof.com

Here’s an excerpt: Tammy’s story on Leg Cramps and a blend she offers to help…

“Last year I had my worst experience ever with pain from non stop leg cramps from above my knee to the tips of my toes, both the front and back of my legs and calf.

I still do not know the cause of my leg cramps, and I do still get them, although not nearly as often as I used to. I now keep a pre-mixed bottle of my leg cramp solution in my night stand, and at the very start I put a drop on the “hot spot”, following the muscle length with a drop every two inches or so. After applying each drop I would rub in a circular motion a few times, expanding my circle with each rotation, the rubbing down until I got to the next spot that I was going to apply a drop of my mixture. Using this method the cramp never gets a chance to get a foot hold, so to speak, and I can finally get peace and relief from these horrible cramps. I have used this recipe as a mixture of all the oils combined & shaken to mix together, & I have also layered the oils individually, with the same amazing result.

This wonderful mixture contains only pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, NOT perfume grade oils. They are used by the drop, NOT by the bottle. They are completely non toxic and chemical free.” ~ Tammy Baile

34 Ways to Use Lemon Essential Oil [how to]

This article on the ways we can use Lemon essential oil I originally wrote for the Young Living Circle Blog and thought I would repost it here for my readers.

Outside of Lavender, therapeutic-grade Lemon essential oil is perhaps one of the most versatile and useful oils to have around the home. Lemon oil can be used for everything from aromatherapy to flavoring water, to making your own uplifting bath salts to cleaning produce. Lemon oil has been widely used in skin care to cleanse skin and reduce wrinkles. It promotes clarity of thought and purpose, as well as health, healing, physical energy, and purification. Its fragrance is invigorating, enhancing, and warming. Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rind.Lemon-Oil-12

A 1995 Mie University study found that citrus fragrances boosted immunity, induced relaxation, and reduced depression.

Medical Properties of Lemon Essential Oil: Antitumoral, antiseptic, improves microcirculation, and immune stimulant (increases white blood cells), improves memory, relaxation. Rich in limonene, which has been extensively studied for its ability to combat tumor growth in over 50 clinical studies.

Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of lemon essential oil – use it sparingly when flavoring beverages or foods. In his book, “The Practice of Aromatherapy”, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.

University researchers in Japan found that diffusing certain aromas in an office environment dramatically improved mental accuracy and concentration. Diffused Lemon oil resulted in 54 percent fewer errors! Diffuse for 10 minutes every hour. When aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50 percent.

34 Ways To Use Lemon Essential Oil**

  1. To clean non-carpeted floors, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Then add 5 – 10 drops of lemon, pine, or spruce essential oil. If the floor is especially dirty, add several drops of dish washing soap. This will clean even the dirtiest floor.
  2. To make a carpet freshener, add 16 – 20 drops of essential oils to 1 cup of baking soda or borax powder. Mix ingredients together well and place in a covered container overnight so that the essential oil can be absorbed. Sprinkle over carpet then vacuum the powder up.
  3. You may also put 3-7 drops of Lemon essential oil on a cotton ball and place it into a vacuum bag – doing this scents the air while vacuuming. If your vacuum collects the dirt into water, simply add a few drops into the water reservoir before vacuuming. This refreshes both the carpet and acts as an air freshener.
  4. Some essential oils can act as gentle stimulants to the limbic system of the brain by their scent, increasing alertness and concentration enhancing the capacity for learning, improving memory, and assisting many other cognitive functions. A wide range of essential oils offer these benefits, such as: Lemon, Peppermint, Rosemary and Melissa. To help increase these functions simply inhale the chosen essential oil directly from the bottle or put a drop on a tissue and keep in your pocket for use throughout the day.

Even a 0.2% solution of Lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria. More on diffusers and diffusing.
