Are you diffusing your Thieves essential oil regularly? I am! With the Swine Flu and other cold germs floating around I’m well equipped with both Thieves essential oil and Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier. These are two of my favorite Young Living products, their usefulness is beyond any other product I know. Thieves product line booklet (PDF).
The Thieves essential oil I’ve used for everything from 4 large puncture wounds I sustained a few years ago from a dog bite (I put 1-2 drops in each hole in my arm, never got infected either!) to diffusing in a nebulizer diffuser so we don’t get the Cooties to preventing mold.
I diffuse Thieves essential oil daily 30 – 60 minutes in my cold-air nebulizer diffuser to keep cold and flu germs away, and to prevent toxic mold. I’ve found that preventing colds, flu, and mold is far cheaper than missed days of work and having to deal with mold clean-up. I’ve also notied that diffusing Thieves regularly that my house doesn’t have spiders. We’re talking win-win all the way around here!
The Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier is nice, it smells terrific too! I have the little bottles scattered between the car and my purse. I put a dab in my palm and rub it in (I like to then cup my hand over my nose and take a few deep inhalations) – I do this before I get out of the car, it’s a barrier of protection if I should touch something that someone with a cold or flu touched before me. Once I’ve run my errands and I’m walking back to my car, I apply another dab on my palm and rub it in before I take my keys out to unlock my car door – my thinking regarding that is… why would I want to touch my car door handle, keys and steering wheel with any potential nasty germs on my hands.

Dr. Garland, interviewed in this video, is regarded as the top epidemiologist on vitamin D and its relation to health. He led one of the latest studies on vitamin D for cancer prevention and his results, which were published in the Annals of Epidemiology, were nothing short of astonishing…

Such intakes also are expected to reduce case-fatality rates of patients who have breast, colorectal, or prostate cancer by half. There are no unreasonable risks from intake of 2000 IU per day of vitamin D3, or from a population serum 25(OH)D level of 40 to 60 ng/mL. The time has arrived for nationally coordinated action to substantially increase intake of vitamin D and calcium.”

Further, the study proposed a new model of cancer development — dubbed DINOMIT — that is centered on a loss of cancer cells’ ability to stick together. The model is a departure from the older model of cancer development, which centers on genetic mutations as the earliest driving forces behind cancer. According to Dr. Garland:
“The first event in cancer is loss of communication among cells due to, among other things, low vitamin D and calcium levels. In this new model, we propose that this loss may play a key role in cancer by disrupting the communication between cells that is essential to healthy cell turnover, allowing more aggressive cancer cells to take over.”
The longer this information goes largely unnoticed, the more people who will die unnecessarily from potentially preventable cancers and other diseases.

According to research from the newly published study by Cedric F. Led by Dr. Garland, one of the GrassrootsHealth D*action panel of 30 scientists, the new study proposes a new model of cancer development that hinges on a loss of cancer cells’ ability to stick together. The model, dubbed DINOMIT, differs substantially from the current model of cancer development, which suggests genetic mutations as the earliest driving forces behind cancer.
“This new research study in the Annals of Epidemiology, shows the vital nature that vitamin D deficiency can play in the development of cancer,” said D*action’s Carole Baggerly. “There is no question that many of these cancers can be prevented with adequate intake of vitamin D3 and calcium. Our mission at the D*action Project has been to get individuals to know and increase their blood levels of vitamin D. We feel this study will put a greater emphasis on medical clinics and groups to embrace this campaign and ensure that their patients attain proper levels of vitamin D.”
In December of 2008, GrassrootsHealth announced the establishment of the D*Action Project to monitor, for five years, the health outcomes of individuals who get their vitamin D levels to the recommended levels of 40-60 ng/ml. Dr. Garland is the lead investigator of this project. Elements of the program include:
Getting participants to join D*action, complete a health questionnaire and have a blood spot test. Receive test results and take action as necessary, ideally in consultation with their health care professional Encourage other people to join D*action.
“We will be tracking the incidence of many diseases, from cancer to diabetes and muscular function as well as pain levels to see what effect the higher vitamin D levels may have,” says Baggerly. “We expect to see a significant reduction in the incidence of breast cancer (and its recurrence), colon cancer, diabetes and myocardial infarction, compared with the general population. Garland, an epidemiologist and a professor of family and preventive medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine attributes the first event in cancer to a loss of communication among cells due to, among other things, low vitamin D and calcium levels.
“In this new model, we propose that this loss may play a key role in cancer by disrupting the communication between cells that is essential to healthy cell turnover, allowing more aggressive cancer cells to take over,” said Garland in a press release on the study issued by the University of California, San Diego.
According to the study, such cellular disruption could account for the earliest stages of many cancers. Garland says previous theories linking low levels of vitamin D to certain cancers have been tested and confirmed in more than 200 epidemiological studies, and understanding of its physiological basis stems from more than 2,500 laboratory studies.
“While more scientific studies need to be made, proper supplementation with vitamin D3 and diet can provide major assistance in preventing cancer development,” said Baggerly.

Garland and his colleagues have published epidemiological studies about the potential preventive effects of vitamin D for two decades. As early as 1990, his team showed an association between deficiency in sunlight exposure, low vitamin D and breast cancer. In previous work, they showed associations between increased levels of vitamin D3 or markers of vitamin D and lower risk for breast, colon, ovarian and kidney cancers.
Other authors on the study include Edward D. Gorham, Sharif B. Mohr and Frank C. Garland, all of UC San Diego.

Antiseptics prevent the growth of pathogenic microorganisms. Many essential oils have powerful antiseptic properties. Therapeutic-grade clove and thyme essential oils have been documented to kill over 50 types of bacteria and 10 types of fungi. Other potent antiseptics include, cinnamon oil, tea tree, oregano, and mountain savory.
A blend of highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-infectious essential oils. Would you knowingly exchange some of the oldest mountains in the world for electricity? Sadly, that’s exactly what’s been happening in the United States! It’s estimated that 50% of the electricity in American homes comes from mountaintop removal… yes, the Appalachian mountains ARE being removed, literally blown up and removed from the landscape to extract coal for electricity.
What bothers me most about this practice is that the Appalachian mountains are some of the oldest mountains in the world, older than the Himalayas! The Appalachian mountain region is home to the largest plant and animal diversity in all of North America.
In the southern parts of the Appalachians the ice age did not come down this far. That meant that plant and animal species who could travel during the last ice age made their way to this area and there they stayed until the massive ice sheets receded, this allowed many species to venture back out. However, I think the fascinating part of it all is how these mountains even today are home to species of plant, insect, and fungi that are still undiscovered.
My entire life I’ve lived in the Appalachian mountains, from North Carolina to New York. It is thought among native Americans that these mountains were the first land above water and they were named, Turtle Island.”
When the Europeans first came to North America and saw these mountains they were in awe. The old growth forests of the mountains boasted trees so huge that it would take up to 10 men, with arms out-stretched and fingers touching to circle a single tree. These trees were chopped down, hundreds of millions of them, the forests were clear cut and the old growth timbers were used for building houses, furniture, and ships. What took nature millions of years to create, was gone in fewer than 100 years.

This is excellent! So much better tasting than bottled pop. Using Agave as the sweetener makes this beverage low-glycemic too.
Italian Vanilla Cream Soda Recipe
- 1/2 a tall glass of natural, sparkling water
- Tiny splash of *vanilla extract (1/4 tsp. or less)
- 1/2 TBS. Blue Agave (learn more about Blue Agave nectar)
- 1/2 a glass of fresh raw milk (goat or cow) (raw milk contains enzymes)
Fill a tall glass halfway full of natural, sparkling water. Add a tiny splash of vanilla extract. Add Agave. Stir well, but slowly to avoid quick fizzing up and overflowing glass. Slowly, in stages, top off with raw milk and stir gently.
* May use cherry juice concentrate in place of vanilla extract, depending on personal taste.

Slightly over three years ago, I heard the news of Katrina hitting New Orleans while camping, perched some 5,000 feet high on a mountain in British Columbia, Canada. The drive down the mountain to the nearest town to use the computer at a tiny bookstore reveled the Katrina nightmare, I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears. Cranberry-Orange [essential oil] Muffins Recipe
- 1 c. dried cranberries
- 2 large eggs
- c. fresh orange juice
- 2 c. rice flour
- ¼ c Young Living Blue Agave
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. grated orange zest
- ¼ tsp. fine salt
- 6 drops Young Living Orange essential oil*
- ½ c. almond milk
- ½ c. butter
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. In a saucepan, combine the cranberries and orange juice and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off heat and let cool. With an electric mixer, mix agave, orange zest, orange oil and butter until smooth. Add eggs and mix well. Fold in 1 cup of flour, baking powder, and salt.
Next, stir in milk and add remaining cup of flour. Gently fold cranberries into mixture. Lightly coat a 12-muffin tin with butter or line with paper baking cups. Put a heaping tablespoon into each tin/cup. Bake for about 10–15 minutes or until just barely golden brown. Serve warm with agave-butter. Makes 24.

I’ve never gotten a flu shot and never plan to get one either, I’ve also never gotten a flu before. I’m not alone in this choice, there are many others like myself who know that holding ourselves accountable for our wellness makes a huge difference in whether your body fights off things like this or succumbs to it. I personally like to take responsibility for myself and my wellness, this has rewarded me with relatively good health for over 52 years now, not to mention the small fortune I’ve saved.

Clearly there are things that can help, while others hinder our efforts. For instance, one thing I would never do is fall victim and allow myself to be ‘conditioned’ to marketing. I don’t care how cleverly a TV commercial or ad tries to convince me that I need their over processed, toxic product. I’m not going to buy into it, no matter how well the poisonous aspects of it are sugar-coated so they can get me to part with my money to line their wallets. Staying out of the sun is one example, why in the world would I want to eliminate a free and healthy available source of vitamin D that my body evolved with so it could obtain that important vitamin!? Thus, I am anti-sunscreen and smart about going in the sun.

Sure, why not they’re doing it in New Delhi! In the mid 1980s I was in Switzerland when I went to make a shopping trip to a local grocery store the friends who I was staying with told me to bring a shopping bag, otherwise I’d have to buy one to tote home the groceries. I can’t recall how much they were though I do recall thinking the price of the bags were expensive and thus a deterrent. I never once recalled seeing a plastic bag blowing around in the swirling breezes of the Alps, nor hung-up in a tree limb. As a matter of fact, upon arriving at JFK Airport and driving into NYC I found our country, the USA, quite filthy in comparison to Switzerland. Our streets, yards and air more resembling trash receptacles of our lazy and careless ways.
Perhaps, the economic crisis we’re in the midst of might turn out to be a good thing. We are consuming less, something we clearly NEED to do more of – shift our old ways of thinking and doing. But what would it be like if the US adopted a much different measure of our country’s worth? What if we used a country like Bhutan whose Gross National Happiness is deemed more important than the Gross National Product??? For safe and effective therapeutic use of essential oils it is important to have a basic knowledge of their constituents – and equally important to use a high quality essential oil, such as Young Living. Essential oils usually contain several major compounds and many more minor compounds, sometimes numbering in the hundreds. Researchers have identified many specific compounds responsible for the anti-microbial powers of oils and the synergistic effect is probably more therapeutically balanced and potent than using an active ingredient that has been isolated from an essential oil.
Terpenes include monoterpenes, sequiterpenes, and diterpenes. These comprise a large group of molecules found in some form in almost all essential oils having a wide range of therapeutic functions.
Different monoterpenes have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antiviral and antibacterial properties. Some are stimulating with a tonic effect. Some are expectorant, mucous membrane stimulants, and decongestants. Others are atmospheric antiseptic agents.

It was only a few decades ago, the soybean was considered unfit to eat – even in Asia.
The soybean did not serve as a food until the discovery of fermentation techniques, some time during the Chou Dynasty. The first soy foods were fermented products like tempeh, natto, miso and soy sauce.
At a later date, possibly in the 2nd century BC, Chinese scientists discovered that a puree of cooked soybeans could be precipitated with calcium sulfate or magnesium sulfate (plaster of Paris or Epsom salts) to make a smooth, pale curd – tofu or bean curd.
