In addition to keeping your fingernails and toenails looking great for summer, proper hand and foot care has a variety of perks. One such perk is when you incorporate therapeutic massage into your pampering routine you’re promoting numerous health-enhancing benefits.
9 Easy Steps for Hand and Foot Care
1. Remove Nail Polish: leaving nail polish on for extended periods of time can result in damage to the nail bed. Before beginning any hand or foot care routine, it is important to remove any nail polish on fingernails and toenails.

Love your Hands!
2. Soak Hands and Feet: submerge hands and feet in water infused with therapeutic-grade Frankincense essential oil. Frankincense is renowned for its skin-enhancing benefits, soaking hands and feet in oil-infused water will condition the skin while prepping cuticles for trimming.
Tip: limit soaking to no more than three minutes for hands and no more than five minutes for feet to soften the nails without weakening them. Read the rest of this entry »

All the talk of the last decade has been about avoiding the sun and avoiding skin cancer. We slather ourselves with sunscreen full of chemicals and think we are doing the right and prudent thing. After all, who wants prematurely aging skin and melanomas?
Now many health advocates are questioning the safety of total sun avoidance, and study after study now point to the importance of sun exposure and vitamin D. A lack of sunlight can put you at risk for a vitamin D deficiency, and increase your susceptibility to a number of diseases-many of them life-threatening.

Enjoy summer sun safely.
So the dangers of skin cancer and sunscreen versus the benefits of the sun and vitamin D, leave the average American confused about the contradictory messages. Avoiding the sun altogether will protect the skin from aging and some skin cancers, but lead to deficits in vitamin D, which leads to other serious health issues including cancer, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, and depression, to name just a few. Where is the happy medium? Read the rest of this entry »
Since the age of 12, upon hearing Ralph Nader on the radio (mid 1960s) speaking about pesticides and processing of our food I took on what would be a lifelong hobby for me – keeping up on what exactly is happening with our food. When I heard Ralph Nader speaking on my nifty little Panasonic clock radio that day it forever changed the way I see government, the FDA, USDA, and a host of others who I had, up until then, naively believed were agencies and people looking out for us, looking out for “our” health and well-being.
I was shocked! I could hardly wrap my young brain around “why” the people who did have control, say so over what happens, and what doesn’t, were not even interested in protecting “us” from things that can make us sick, diseased, and cause us to die prematurely. As children, I believe we need to know that we are being protected in the right ways, not some of this silly type of protection that’s so common today (which oftentimes seems so superficial compared to what should be done). Fact: 70 percent of all food in the USA is, IS, Genetically Modified (GM).
Are you part of the 2/3 of the population think they have never eaten GMO food?
Take my survey: are you eating GM foods?
Since the introduction of GM crops in the United States, more than 120 million pounds of additional pesticides have been used. 85 percent of all GM seeds are engineered for herbicide tolerance, most of these being Monsanto’s “Roundup Ready” cotton, corn, soy, and canola seeds. This allows plants to withstand the significant amounts of pesticides being sprayed on them, in effect promoting pesticide use.
This particular variety of GM crop (Roundup Ready) became so popular because it allows farmers to spray Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide directly onto their fields without harming the crops. As you might imagine, the use of Roundup herbicide has increased dramatically since the GM Roundup Ready crops were introduced — a double win for Monsanto.
Andrew Kimbrell, Center for Food Safety, says, “what’s remarkable about this is that these are the scientists working inside the FDA and when the political appointee’s at the top said ‘no testing, no labeling’ they say where is your science, why didn’t you listen to our science? Now, that means that these foods have gone out without the testing, without asking are these foods toxic? Are these foods causing new allergens? They’re out there in our fields, they’re out there in our super markets, going out into markets around the world without testing being done.” Read the rest of this entry »
Essential oils are not simple substances, they are mosaics of hundreds – or even thousands – of different natural plant chemicals, natural plant chemicals that our bodies have evolved with over centuries. Any given essential oil may contain anywhere from 80 to 300 or more different constituents. When we walk through a herb garden, and brush against a lavender or thyme plant, for instance, that delightful aroma which fills the air is the essential oil is far more than nice scent.

Young Living Lavender field... ahhhhhhh, heavenly!
An essential oil like lavender is very complex with many constituents occurring in minute quantities – but all contribute to the essential oil’s therapeutic effect to some degree. Each constituent in a plant (or a food for that matter) is there for a reason. This is why I am such a stickler about all of my food and products have to be completely “in-tact.” I want all of the parts to be there and to be whole. Read the rest of this entry »
According to industry estimates, on any given day an average consumer may use as many as 25 different cosmetic and personal care products, including shampoo, nail polish, aftershave and lotion, containing more than 200 different chemical compounds.
A common assumption within the cosmetics industry is that 70% of what is applied to the skin is absorbed into the body. It is not surprising, then, that many dangerous chemicals have gotten into our bodies, our breast milk and our children. Some of these chemicals are linked to cancer, birth defects and other health problems that are on the rise in the human population. Read the rest of this entry »
When we talk about skin, we usually think about the epithelium, the covering of our bodies. But skin can also be the endothelium, which is the “skin” that lines our arteries and they’re essentially the same type of cells that do the same things. And, when they’re injured they secrete pretty much the same chemicals.

Vitruvian Man: Then and Now
Our bodies, containing some ten trillion cells, has to coordinate their communication and when there is a breakdown in that coordination things can go awry and cause disease – it’s always the communication that needs to be corrected, i.e., the fixing of the instructions is what we want to deal with ultimately.
If our external skin, heart, arteries, kidneys, brain, etc. are related and can produce the symptoms of the underlying disease of aging, it’s good to take a look at the mechanisms that have to do with nutrition and what we allow our bodies to be exposed to. Aging can be slowed down. Studies over the past ten years in many different species of animals have shown that the rate of aging can reduce the rate of aging by 10, 20 and up to 400% – amazing! And, we know that this is done through nutrition, mechanisms that relate to insulin, leptin, and nutrition. The symptoms of aging are wrinkled skin, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, etc. all of which are related to the rate of aging.

Testimonials with White Angelica:
I use White Angelica on my 8yr old grandaughter she was having bad nightmares so I spritz her before going to bed she sleeps better and nightmares are gone. ~ Sheryl K.
White Angelica is one of the oils I first ordered with Young Living. It protects you from negative influences. Everyone has stress and sometimes our closest family member put their negative emotions on us. This has been very protective to me and I have also learned by putting on the heart chakra that it also protects the heart from taking on negativity. I also apply it to the shoulders 3 drops on each. It has the ability to deepen and reach into the energy field and strengthen your emotions to withstand anything you come into. I have also noticed strength to help in business and be more functional. I use it a lot with Clients that have a lot of stress or depression. It has 18 Essential Oils and was made in layers perhaps that is why it is so wonderful at work! It is a beautiful perfume and worth its weight in gold. Happy Oiling ~ Sarah M.

The OCA (Organic Consumer’s Association) web forum is an online community of like-minded people sharing thoughts about the wide variety of topics you regularly read about in Organic Bytes or on the OCA website. The web forum now has over 4,500 members and nearly 10,000 posts. One of those recent posts was from a user named Tedalan on Silk Soy Milk Packaging Scam:
“I was very involved in the creation of Silk Organic Soymilk when it was first designed and manufactured. Steve Demos was very committed to Silk being Non-GMO, Organic and Vegan. Suddenly, when buying Silk at Whole Foods, I discovered that none of the Silk flavors in half gallon containers were certified organic. The cartons look exactly the same as before with the exception/removal of the USDA Organic Seal and the word “organic” before soybeans in the nutritional panel.
This is a very sneaky way for a manufacturer to discontinue Non-GMO Organic soybeans in the manufacture of thier product. I also wonder why Whole Foods continues to sell this product without a “warning sign”. Tedalan

Little Surprises in Our Foods – Excitotoxins
Very few consider their homes to be a real source of stress. After all, the home is seen as a place of safety – a sanctuary and retreat. Our homes continue to be important places of retreat from the greater pressures of our work environment. Now more than ever, our homes need to be healthy centers of calm to support and regenerate us, so the idea that they may cause us stress may be a revelation.
The modern lifestyle of luxury, excess, and technological reliance that we have created and adapted to is beginning to be more widely linked to health issues. Many of today’s health issues are directly related to the toxins in cleaning products and personal care products we use daily. These are not only a source of ill health for us but for our kids, pets and the environment too. Now more than ever it’s important to consider what we can do daily to restore, preserve, and maintain good health and wellness.

Flowers and candles relax senses.
Good health is not just the absence of disease, it’s about having vitality and feeling joyful. This can become a very real possibility when we rethink what we use, what we bring into our homes, and our diet, and make changes to home our environment.
Our ability to cope with everyday events is a reliable indicator of our physical, mental, and emotional health. Each of the 7 stressors below has a major impact on our health health and well-being. Although a single stressor may be handled individually without unbalancing the body too much, the cumulative effect of a few can be extremely harmful to our physical and mental well-being.
7 Stressors in Our Homes:
• Clutter and disorder
• Electromagnetic radiation
• Chemical pollution
• Environmental stress
• Geopathic stress
• Lifestyle stress
• Unhealthy diet
With the exception of “clutter and disorder” Young Living essential oils and Thieves Household Cleaner these can play a beneficial role in helping each of us to have happier, healthier lives.
I know I personally can see how switching changed and enhanced the quality of my life. There is just no way I would ever even think of going back to using the same kinds of products I used many years ago.
When we consider the positive effect essential oils and other Young Living products could have on our well-being we might find the quality of our life changing.
Easy Steps to De-Stress Your Home
1. Diffusing Young Living Essential Oils.
This is perhaps one of the easiest ways to change the vibe happening in a home. If there are kids running around screaming and tense adults on the verge of biting off someone’s head the simple act of smelling therapeutic-grade essential oils from a nebulizer diffuser can make a huge difference.
Young Living Oils I Recommend for Diffusing for a Relaxing Home
• Peace & Calming
• Joy
• Citrus Fresh
• Gentle Baby (great for kids and mom’s to be)
Tip: it is healthier to buy bees wax candles unscented and get your ’scent’ from a cold-air nebulizer diffuser as you will get the healthy benefits of both this way. Candle makers NEVER use high quality essential oils because it would make their candles extremely expensive. Thus, always assume – all candles contain either the lowest quality essential oils that have been adulterated, or they are using perfume oils that are entirely from chemicals.

Meditation: calming to body, mind & soul.
2. Rubbing Young Living Essential Oils on the Soles of the Feet.
Yup, it’s true… simply rubbing a couple of drops of Young Living oils on the soles of your feet is another excellent way to help de-stress and calm things down. It’s also a good way to help protect yourself from colds and flu, and get a restful nights sleep. Don’t under estimate the power of rubbing a couple drops of therapeutic-grade essential oils on the soles of your feet!
Young Living Oils I Recommend for Calming the Body, Mind and Soul
• Lavender and Orange (combine them, they’re excellent for stress and anxiety as demonstrated in this study)
• RutaVaLa (on the back of the neck and/or soles of the feet)
• Live with Passion
• Peace & Calming
• Tranquil Roll-On

5. Addressing Diet.
There are many things that can be done to create a much better diet and I’ll just cover a few basics which include avoiding all processed foods and sugar substitutes. Replace those with locally grown fresh produce and grass-fed meats. Bringing the body into an alkaline state can be very helpful in alleviating many undesirable health conditions.

Add a drop of Young Living essential oil to your cup of tea. Flavorful & soothing.

Psoriasis is a non-infectious skin disorder that is marked by skin patches or flaky skin that can occur in limited areas – such as the scalp – or that can cover up to 80-90% of the body. The overly rapid growth of skin cells is the primary cause of psoriasis. In some cases, skin cells grow four times faster than normal, resulting in the formation of silvery layers that flake off.

Young Living for Natural Skin Care
Treating Psoriasis with pH Balance
Psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, dry skin, allergies, and similar problems indicate an excessive acidic pH in the body. The more acid in the blood and skin the less you will see a therapeutic effect from therapeutic-grade essential oils. People who have a negative reaction to therapeutic-grade essential oils are usually highly acidic.
An alkaline balance must be obtained and then maintained in the blood and skin for the essential oils to work the best.
Young Living’s supplements AlkaLime and MultiGreens are both helpful for this balancing and knowing effective ways to restore the body to an Alkaline pH. If you also have fungus issues you will see improvement regarding that problem as will when you begin making your body more alkaline. Read the rest of this entry »
Allergies, degenerative and infectious diseases are related in their causes, a supressed immune system. In Nancy Appleton’s work she discovered that such immune system suppressions can occur with many of the foods that are ubiquitous in our modern diet, of which the chief culprit is sugar. She also found out that stress allowed to fester into distress has similar effects on our health.

I'm distressed about our food - make them STOP!!!
For many eating any foods that are normally good for you with an abusive food like sugar may eventually cause you to be allergic to that food. The doctor tells a story of her unhealthy youth where she would pop into a hamburger stand and get onion rings with a chocolate shake. Until Nancy Appleton started applying the principles of homeostasis and mineral balance to her own life, she couldn’t have told you why even raw onions made her nose run, her joints ache and parts of her body swelled up. The sugar in the chocolate shake and the fried fat of the onion rings were such an assault on her immune system that her body classified onions as a foreign invader thus creating a food allergy. Yes, that’s right you can use Young Living’s essential oils in cooking! How is it possible that can we ingest an essential oil? This is what sets Young Living apart from all the other essential oil companies, superb purity – not the 100% Pure you see written on essential oil labels in the health food stores, 100% pure means absolutely nothing in regards to how pure an essential oil is (the word has been so abused that it’s meaningless in the world of aromatherapy).
Young Living essential oils can actually be used in cooking and as a dietary supplement as part of your wellness program. So, enjoy our recipes and eating your Young Living oils!

Almost ten years ago I discovered Young Living Essential Oils, it felt like I was in heaven… my long search for the best and purest quality essential oils finally manifested! Even though I had been using essential oils for 12 years I was limited to the ways I could use them – limited because I had learned that all essential oils are NOT created equal. I had heard that one could flavor food and ingest essential oils for wellness but had to be extremely careful and trust their source completely, why – because an adulterated essential oil CAN cause great harm.
Upon learning that interesting little fact I chose to use my essential oils ONLY for household cleaning and air freshening purposes, and although I did not like the idea of exposing my bare hands to oils that were not truly pure and inhaling the aroma of adulterated oils, I still felt that using those oils was better than the synthetic and chemical cleaning products, which are still on the market and just as toxic as ever, if not more so!
